Kam Do Restaurant and Bakery in Richmond

We sort of stumbled into the Kam Do Restaurant and Bakery a few weeks back. We have passed by the restaurant many times before but have for some reason never ever thought of checking that place out. A few weeks ago, we did and were very surprised of what they office.

Kam Do is a Cantonese style cafe — one which serves authentic cantonese food and also western style breakfasts like toasts, omelettes, etc. There were a lot of people the weekend we were there and had to take a 5 minute wait. Like many cantonese style cafe, at the waiting area was a pastry and bread section.

You know what we like most about these sort of places, it’s that most of the dishes you ordered comes together with a choice of drinks and soup. We always ordered the “lai char” (milk tea) in such places.

The free soup was a good starter. Some restaurants only serves the soup mostly with bones but this actually had good chunky meat with some preserved vegetables.

The Panfried Seafood Noodles costs $8.98.

The noodles were crunchy on the outer dish and softened by the gravy on the inner plates. it’s a very good combination and have felt that this is like having two dishes in one. There were a lot of large prawns, scallops and squid. The bokchoy too tasted very fresh. Excellent dish for brunch.

We also ordered the Kam Do Premium Set Menu which costs $9.98. It is served with a Garlic Toast and the Chef’s Special Soup. The garlic bread was fragrant and toasted to crispy perfection. We hoped they had a few more toast served.

The Kam Do Premium Set Menu also included a selection of two appetizers from their menu. We got the crispy wings and cod fillet cutlet. The are served with mayo as a dip.

For the main dish, we selected the Baked Pork Chop with Panfried Rice. We did not expect it to be covered with tomato based sauce. It was not bad at all.

Under the tomato base sauce were yellow fried rice and two really large pieces of pork chops. The rice and the prok chop were very very good.

The servings were very large. The two dishes we ordered were more than enough for the four of us. The food here certainly gives value for money. We will be back to try their other dishes. I highly recommend that you check it out.

It’s located on Alexandra Rd in Richmond. Click here for Google Map of the restaurant. Here is their address:

  1. Hi Ben - That does look like quite a bit of food. These Euro-Chinese Coffee Shops-Cafes are so interesting…you’ll never know what you’ll come across. Pan Fried Noodles with Seafood is one of my favorites as well….

  2. Great pictures. I’m getting hungry.

  3. The food looks so fresh!

  4. Hi Kirk: That was a lot of food even though that is just two orders. That’s why we like places like Kam Do — value for money.

Hi Duane: I am kind of glad that the pictures made you feel hungry!

Hi Maritza: What looked fresh … was it the prawns and noodles?

  5. You should try the wife pastries there, they make the best ones in town! =)
