Hawaiian Meatball

The second dish which Minoo made was Hawaiian Meatball. The sweet and sour meatballs are very appetizing and kids will love this dish. Try and make it for your family.

Minoo served the Hawaiian Meatballs with steamed rice. A little more sauce will be perfect to go with the rice.

The Hawaiian Meatball is good for potluck too.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
  • 2/3 cup chopped onion, divided
  • 1/4 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2/3 cup cracker/bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon corn starch
  • 12oz can pineapple, reserve the juice
  • 1 cup chopped red or green pepper
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • mushroom, optional

Instructions

Combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, chopped onion, egg, salt, ginger and milk in a large bowl.

Mix them really well with your hand.

Shape them into meatballs.

Repeat until all the meatballs are formed.

Chopped the onion, pepper, mushroom and pineapple.Ignore the cilantro as it’s for the Sweet Potato Soup.

Combine the brown sugar, corn starch, vinegar, soy sauce and pineapple juice and mix until smooth.

Shallow fry the meatballs in a frying pan until golden brown.

Remove the meatballs and drain on paper towel.

In another large skillet, sauce the mushrooms and onions with a little oil.

Add the peppers.

Return the meatballs into the skillet and also add the orange zest.

Pour the sauce into the skillet and simmer over medium heat, stirring until it comes to a boil.

Add in the pineapples chunks and just heat through.

Minoo, thanks for sharing and leading the Richmond Community Kitchens.

That looks great ! Do you think they can be baked too (instead of pan fried) ?

Hi LotusRapper, you can surely bake the meat balls instead of pan frying them. Bake them at 350F for 20 to 30 minutes or until they’re brown.
