The brand of cooking caramel or thick soy sauce as shown in the pic ‘Cheong Chan’ is available at the Heng Long Market on 104 Ave in Surrey. There are other brands like ABC but they are too sweet.
Thanks so much for sharing the recipe Suanne!! I can’t wait to give this dessert soup a try. I have one question, what do you call chinese white figs (in cantonese)?
Hey Claire: You’re a Brit, you can confirm this. I was told when I was in London that the national dish in the UK is not Fish and Chips but Chicken Tikka Masala!! Ben
This is an excellent restaurant. Also, if there are any ex-Brits reading this foodie blog - this restaurant has the BEST onion Bhajis outside of England!! Bliss!!
I love South Indian food and was quite delighted by this restaurant! Good food, great service, good price. I did think the Masala Dosas were a tad small and uninspiring though, but it definately gets my thumbs up!
I agree with Kimho. But that’s reality. You can go to Maurya or Vij’s and it’s still cuisine adapted to local tastes. And in terms of saltiness, I’ve yet walked out of one Indian restaurant without feeling thirsty from their over-salted foods. Which is ironic as their foods are so rich in strong or subtle spices and yet they still seem to add so much salt in their cooking. But I’ll admit to being a 2-plater at Saffron. I used to be able to do 3, but nowadays 2 is good enough for me :-)
