Making Pizza from Scratch: Margherita Pizza (Part 3 of 5)

Lorna, Christina and Paul made this Margherita Pizza in the South Arm Cooking Club for seniors. The original Margherita Pizza is made with tomato, sliced mozzarella, basil and extra-virgin olive oil.

Margherita Pizza is another easy to assemble pizza. It only needs some mincing and slicing.

Ingredients

  • a pizza dough
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 cup Mozzarella cheese (we used shredded ones instead of sliced ones)
  • 2 thinly sliced roma tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup sliced basil leaves

Instructions

margheritapizza-13Grease a cookie sheet with some oil.
margheritapizza-11When the dough is ready, do not punch down the dough. Instead, on a lightly floured surface, use your hands to stretch and flatten the ball of dough into a thin circle (if you are making a round pizza). Stretch each piece gently from the center out, turning the dough as you do so that it remains round (in our case, it should be rectangle).
margheritapizza-12If the middle gets too thin, lay the dough on the greased cookie sheet and only stretch the edges until you get the size you like.
margheritapizza-14Spread the pizza sauce on the dough. Sprinkle with minced garlic.
margheritapizza-15Sprinkle with mozarella cheese, sliced tomatoes and parmesan cheese.

Bake in a 450F preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until the edges turn brown and the cheese melted.

margheritapizza-16Remove pizza from oven and sprinkle with sliced basil leaves. Slice and serve.

Lorna, Christina and Paul, thank you for making this Margherita Pizza.
