50 Most Delicious Food In The World: Have You Tried Them All?

CNN published an article of the World’s 50 Most Delicious Foods a few days ago. That article caused a bit of news in Malaysia because the Assam Laksa landed on spot #7.

And true to form, this sort of things rankled Singapore. Both Malaysia and Singapore had a bit of an exchange over the press on why Singapore’s Chili Crab (ranked #35) and Chicken Rice (#45) is ranked lower than the Assam Laksa (see here).

Frankly, although this is fun to read, I won’t take this list very seriously. While some of the food listed deserves recognition, there are some that is rather dubious. In particular, … More on following page. Click here to continue reading

Poll: Vote for Your Favourite Stalls in the Richmond Public Market

I could be wrong. I have a feeling that not many of you go to the Richmond Public Market (RPM) for food. I mean, with so many food courts in Richmond, there are plenty of choices. For me it will be interesting to see how many of you have been to the RPM and have a favourite stall. Polls on chowtimes will attract about 150 voters on an average and if this poll gets the same number of voters, I can deduce that there are more chowtimes friends who visits RPM than I thought.

This poll is not possible if not for the kind help of Sunny. He had been a great help on Urbanspoon by painstakingly updating it with correct information and putting up pictures. Sunny provided all the pictures of EACH AND EVERY fifteen stalls in the RPM food court! [Thanks a lot, Sunny!]

Poll: Do You Use Facebook?

Many of you know that we have a fan page on facebook. The number of people who “liked” the page had been slowly increasing and is now at over 500. For those of you who have not but wants to “like” the facebook page, the page is on http://www.facebook.com/chowtimes.

I am trying to see if I should invest my time in integrating chowtimes.com more closely with FaceBook.

altalt

This is because we saw a marked increase of referrals from facebook to chowtimes. This tells us that a significant percentage of the friends of chowtimes does come to our site through that social media site.

What I am thinking of doing is to integrate not just the post from chowtimes to our facebook fan page but to also to cross post your comments from chowtimes to facebook and vice versa.

Also I am thinking of dropping our existing altlike in favour of facebook’s native alt functionality.

Can you please take a moment and participate in this 5 seconds survey. I would like to know how many of you uses facebook so that I see if it is worthwhile spending time working on this. Thanks a lot!

The Most Favourite Taiwanese Beef Noodle in Vancouver

I thought that the little poll I put up for the best Vietnamese restaurant in Richmond was fun (see poll at the bottom of the post here). In that post, I was root for the Green Lemongrass but as it stands now, Thai Son is leading Green Lemongrass by just a mere vote. These two restaurants is on a dead-heat and simply led by a vast margin over the other Vietnamese restaurants.

So I thought it would be fun to see what is everyone’s favouritest TAIWANESE BEEF NOODLES. I have put up a poll at the end of this post. I hope would you take a minute to select ALL (not just one) of your favourite Taiwanese Beef Noodle places.

I know there are other good Taiwanesese beef noodles restaurants in Vancouver but for simplicity sake, I will limit the poll to the ones below. There are a total of 15 that we had been to and blogged about. You can click on the pictures below if you want and it will bring you to the relevant post.

So vote away. Enjoy! [The poll is located at the bottom of the post after the jump]

Villa Vietnamese Cuisine on Bridgeport, Richmond

I think this is it.

This is the last restaurant in Richmond that everyone in the family will have no objection going to.

For those of you who does not know by now, the only places that Arkensen and Nanzaro wants to go dining out is to any Vietnamese or Japanese restaurant AND that it must be in Richmond. They hate driving far from home. They just want to go eat and be done with … and then go to Best Buy or Future Shop.

And then Suanne does not like Japanese, particularly sushis which the boys love. So that ends up with a choice of only Vietnamese restaurant in Richmond.

I think we had visited every single Vietnamese restaurant in Richmond already … except for this one. I think this is the last of it.

The Villa Vietnamese Cuisine is located on Bridgeport Road just east of where The Brick is.

We spotted this restaurant a couple months ago while driving past this area. We couldn’t find any reviews on the internet at all then and soon after we forgot about this. It was Suanne, who was confronted with going to a Japanese restaurant, brought up this place.

So we went. It wasn’t too good when we pulled into the small strip mall with a virtually empty parking lot. This was supposed to be peak lunch time on a Saturday. At this time the restaurants in Richmond are full and bustling.

However, the insides is very unlike the typical Vietnamese restaurants we had been to. This one is modern and clean. At a glance one would least suspect this is a Vietnamese restaurant.

The restaurant is rather small and seats about 24 people. They can surely fit more people but instead chooses to give a wide space in between tables.

This is a new restaurant. They had just been opened for 8 months which partially explain why they are … More on following page. Click here to continue reading
