Suanne and I was walking in the Aberdeen Centre and guess what we saw.
They had just closed the wet market section at the ground floor for renovations. It seem like the ETA is spring.
Today is the first day of spring, isn’t it?

Several openings and closings in Richmond.
1. JJ Shanghai on No.3 Road has closed down and now replaced by a new Szechuan restaurant.
2. Red Palms Malaysian on Westminster HWY has closed down replaced by Jazz (HK Cafe).
3. Dosa Grill inside Richmond Public Market has closed down. A new Chinese eatery to open.
Hi Crispy: No I don’t believe in Fung Sui but I think the Dosa Grill location in the Richmond Public Market always have a hard time drawing customers. Let’s hope this new one works better. Do you know what cuisine they serve? BTW, have you tried Jazz (HK Cafe) yet?
Ben, I passed by Jazz again this morning. It wasnt opened for breakfast. Anyway, I looked at their menu posted outside and they are not a HK style cafe. Its actually a new Japanese izakaya/robata place with karaoke on weekends, They do have lunch specials at 6.75 each combo dish.
Thanks for checking out Jazz for all of us, Crispy.
That Shanghai JJ former space is a revolving door of restaurants. I’ve seen a number of restaurants come and go in that spot. The old Dosa Grill space was previously occupied by Veggie Bunch. They were there for a while. I cant remember who was there before them.
As for the Jazz Cafe, I havent been there yet. Actually I just drove by it and not even sure if its really a HK cafe. Its looks like it though. They have a lunch specials for 6.95 as posted on their door.
Hi Ben
I just want to thank you and Suanne for your wonderful website. I found your site via Googling for places to eat in Vancouver only recently. But now, we refer to your site all the time whenever looking for new places and recipes to try.
We live in Victoria but often enjoy family weekends in Vancouver just a ferry ride away. Our family always go to Green Lemongrass for Vietnamese food but recently wanted to try something new. The info you provided about Pho Lan (on No 3 Rd and Granville) inspired us to try it this weekend and it was a winner for sure all around, esp with our two boys aged 10 and 12 who both have strong opinions about what they like and don’t like!
You and Suanne are very generous with devoting time to sharing your dining experiences (and great humour) with your readers. Hope you know how much this is appreciated 🙂
Sincerely,
Pauline Truong
Hi Pauline: Thanks for the feedback. We have a lot of posts and navigating around chowtimes.com is easy if you use the links on the sidebar. You can also hack the URL like http://chowtimes.com/tag/vietnamese+vancouver to get a list of Vietnamese restaurants in Vancouver. You know, we don’t get around a lot and rely on tips from readers like you. So if you have any favourite restaurants, email me and let me know! 🙂 Ben
I usually buy veggies at that grocery store on Sat mornings. I missed going for a week and when I was there on the 12th, I was shocked to see the grocery store gone! Great to see H-Mart coming up in Richmond. The one in Langley sucks but the mini restaurant inside serving simple Korean food is fantastic. Hopefully, there will be a mini restaurant in this new H-Mart as well.
Hi Lissa: We were surprised to see that market section in Aberdeen boarded up too this morning. I thought it was a coup for Aberdeen to land H-Mart in this spot and in direct location from T&T and Osaka within walking distance from one another. We found a few other movements. The ginseng shop and the meat jerky stall in the wet market will be moving to the lot vacated by Qoola. Qoola in turn will be moving upstairs to the food court. With H-Mart there, I think the traffic in the parking lot will be worse. They really need to do something about the parking. Ben
This is the best news I heard this month! so happy to have a Korean market in Richmond finally – I don’t have to go downtown or to Coquitlam anymore 🙂
