While Ben was driving along Kingsway when he was back in town, we found a new Vietnamese restaurant with a grand opening banner. We decided to stop by the restaurant for lunch.
Gold Train Restaurant opens 24 hours. Great to know another option in case of food craving in the middle of the night.
We were interested in the congee dish on the menu as displayed outside the restaurant.
The restaurant is bright, especially with the mirror that lined the wall.
Customized cutlery shows that the restaurant cares about details.
Unfortunately, they do not serve the porridge dish yet. I ordered a Grilled Marinated Pork, Prawn and Spring Roll with Vermicelli. This is served with sliced raw red onion, fried shallot, bean sprout and peanuts. This is $8.49.
The vermicelli is flavoured with seasoned fish sauce. There were generous amount of pork in this dish. I wonder if I can change the vermicelli to rice noodle.
Ben ordered a Grilled Lemongrass Pork Chop on Fried Rice. This is $7.49.
The grilled pork chop looked good with charred grilled marks. But I did find that the meat was a bit dry.
The fried rice did not resemble the Chinese version of fried rice. It had a very mild taste. It did not even look like it had been fried.
The menu is big. over 120 items.
That grilled, marinated pork looks a lot like spam. Is it? If not, any idea what part of the pig it is from?
It’s a Vietnamese “meatloaf”. This one may be “cha lua” ?
It’s actually nem nuong. Nem nuong is usually ground pork and spices. Cha lua is normally white/tan color.
Ah thanks !
Ohh!! Thanks for the post of the new location. Just wondering, it said 15% off grand opening, but from your bill you only got 10%
Hi Chris, we did not expect the discount in the first place because often restaurant let the grand opening sign on forever. Since we did not patron that area of town for a while, we thought the restaurant had been opened for sometime already.
Went here 2 days ago at night and it was not open!
