Lorna called me to go for “yum cha” on a weekday. “Yum cha” generally meant to go for dim sum for Hongkong people.
I suggested middle eastern food instead. I remembered Nanzaro told me about a sharwama place in Blundell and Garden City Road.
This restaurant used to be operated by Filipino but now it looks like it’s more authentic as the owner is of middle eastern descendant.

Ben and I went out for breakfast and groceries shopping on a Saturday morning. We had a picnic to go to in the late afternoon. One of the request for the picnic was roast pork from Parker Place.
After buying the roast pork, we tried to look for a table at Parker Place food court for breakfast. We could not find a table as the food court was full. So, our plan B is to check out KD Restaurant, the relatively new HongKong style restaurant in the same mall. Unfortunately, there was already people waiting for tables outside the restaurant. Our plan C was to walk over to Lido for breakfast. Another 30 minutes for Lido. Our last resort was to walk over to Empire food court.
Since it’s still early, there were not many stalls that were open. We settled with Wonderful Milk Tea which was open at that time. It’s a Hongkong style stall.
We shared a garlic scallop and shrimp fried rice. It was very fragrant with garlic aroma. Serving was quite big too.
Ben had ice milk tea while I had hot milk tea. The tea flavour was strong. I like the size of the hot milk tea here as it was bigger than other Hongkong style restaurants where hot drink is served in a small cup. The meal came to below $12.

On a Sunday evening, Ben suggested to go to Happy Date Bakery & Restaurant for dinner. He saw a tank full of lobster the other day when we had breakfast here.
Complimentary daily soup of pork bone and lotus root was flavourful.
We had the lobster combo with 2 dishes. I added the “yee mien” for an additional $5. Since we wanted noodle with the lobster dish, we had the ginger and green onion flavour so that the noodle can soak up the sauce. The boys picked the meaty and easy to eat part of the lobster. After lunch at Benss Cafe, we walked along Victoria Dr. a bit to help digestion. Ben likes to walk after a meal. Not so much for the boys.
We stopped by Mei Yee Bakery to buy some stuff for breakfast and snacks.
Ben wanted the Chicken steam buns which comes in 4 in a bag.
The bun does not look big when we bought it, but when we had it for breakfast the next morning, it felt bigger than it look. It is filled with chicken, ham, salted egg yolk and some crunchy daikon (I think). Continue reading
We intended to go Kedah House for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We wanted to have the all you can eat buffet which will be replaced with mixed dishes style of serving. The owner told us that they are not sure when they will implement it yet. We were disappointed to see that Kedah House was not open. Perhaps they are closed for the Muslim holiday.
So, Ben suggested we go to Victoria Dr. to look for a place to eat. We decided to eat at Benss Cafe which is a Hong Kong style cafe which our boys agreed to.
The restaurant was not busy when we arrived just around noon. More customers arrived later.
I ordered the minced pork and salted fish claypot rice. It was quite a big serving. Luckily, Ben helped me to finish it. Continue reading
Emily, Lorna, Marian and I met up to celebrate Marian’s belated birthday. We had lunch at Ningbo Seafood Restaurant. We made the appointment at 1PM. I picked up Lorna early, just past 12PM because I know parking here is difficult and I managed to find a parking on the 2nd floor parking in less than 10 minutes.
Emily and Marian who came on time took 30 minutes to find their parking spots on this weekday lunch.

We woke up early to catch a 9AM flight home. We took the courtesy shuttle which runs every half hour.

After clearing security, we still have enough time for breakfast. We had our breakfast at Boccone Trattoria. This restaurant is a partnership of Toronto Pearson with chef, restaurateur and author Massimo Capra.
We started with coffee. Caffeine is good in the morning.
Ben had the Eggs Massimo; 2 eggs cooked in tomato sauce, served with BT potatoes and a choice of bacon, sausage or smoked salmon.
After we settled down at the hotel, we walked out to look for food in the vicinity area.
We ended up at Airport Gate Cage & Grill.
It was late and the restaurant was pretty quiet.
We shared a chicken souvlaki which came in a big serving. The salad was very fresh even though it’s end of the day. The chicken was tender.
We also shared a slice of Milky Way cake for dessert. Ben who is not a fan of sweet treat commented that this was good.
As we were eating, a server had started cleaning another section of the restaurant. I’m impressed that she actually moved all the tables and chairs to clean the floor properly.
We returned the rental car at the Toronto Airport and took the courtesy shuttle to Holiday Inn which we had booked a room for the night.

We met up with Hao & Xue for a farewell lunch before we depart for Toronto.
We met at Rangoon Restaurant on Gloucester St.
The restaurant was busy with the lunch crowd.
We started off with tea salad. This is a Burmese salad made with lettuce, tomatoes, fermented tea leaves topped with peanuts, sesame seeds and toasted soy bean. The soy bean adds crunchiness to the salad.
The next appetizer was a Rice Noodle Salad. This one resembles Chinese version of mixed noodle, just that the sauce is a little sour. Continue reading
