Lemon Loaf with Poppy Seeds

Minoo shared a Lemon Loaf with Poppy Seeds to complete a meal of Caldo Verde and healthy Rice and Spinach Croquettes.


These Lemon Loaf with Poppy Seeds is great for tea break.


  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • rind (finely grated) and juice of 1 lemon
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • poppy seeds

IMG_6940Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Cream butter and sugar together.

IMG_6942Beat eggs in a measuring cup.

Add milk and mix well.

Add milk mixture to sugar mixture a bit at a time while mixing on low.

IMG_6946Combine dry ingredients in a bowl (no shifting required).

Add lemon rind and stir to mix.

IMG_6947Add wet ingredients into dry ingredients and stir to mix.
IMG_6950Add poppy seeds and stir to mix.
IMG_6955Grease and dust loaf pan with flour and knockoff excess flour.
IMG_6967Scoop batter into loaf pan.

Bake in a 350 degrees oven. The time depends on the size of the loaf pan.

A 9″ x 5″ loaf pan will require 1 hour baking time while muffin tin will require 20 to 25 minutes.

IMG_6974Remove from oven and cool for 5 minutes. Prick crust with a fork and drizzle with lemon juice (or brush lemon juice on with a pastry brush).

Allow loaf to stand for 30 minutes before removing from pan.
