Emily, Marian, Lorna and I met up as Emily and Marian will be going back to China and Philippines respectively for holiday.
We met in Bestie Chicken Pot which is on the Chopstick Fest list which took place from Oct 15-30.
We arrived at 6:00PM and the place was not busy yet.
We ordered the set menu for 4 for $59.95 from the Chopstick fest menu. The server told us that the chopstick fest menu is limited per night and has to be reserved but they managed to allocate one for us.
Since Marian arrived late due to coming from work, we ordered a couple of appetizers first. The above Pig Ear appetizer was a popular dish here as the server told us. The pig ears was on top of a bed of cucumbers and doused with spicy chili oil. They were too spicy for Emily and Lorna as they had to dip them in water to wash off the chili oil before eating them.
We were not aware that there were cucumbers under the pig ear dish and we ordered another cucumber appetizer. This was not as spicy as it was seasoned with garlic sauce.
We decided to go with the Drunken Chicken Soup base as Marian’s doctor advised her not to eat food that is very spicy.
The chicken which is the star of this hotpot was good, tender after cooked in the broth.
We were given four individual bowls of dipping sauce made with shallots, green onion and oil.
The set menu came with the above chef’s special marinated beef and fish. They were spicy and salty.
Also in the set is a small basket of assorted vegetables, …
… a small basket of red potato wide noodle, …
…and a plate of fried pork cheek (large portion as stated in the menu).
The crab stick was supposed to be part of the set menu but when I wrote this post, I just noticed that the restaurant actually charged us extra for it.
We ordered extra vegetables as we felt there was not enough of it. We had lotus root, …
…, yam, …
… and coronarium.
The meal came to $28 per person after tax and tips, probably more expensive than those all you can eat hotpot places. The restaurant only accepts cash and debit card.
We wish Emily and Marian to have a safe trip home and a happy family reunion.
