On Thaipusam day, my sister and I visited Royal Selangor, also to meet up with an ex-colleague. My sister also had a short working life in Royal Selangor while waiting for her STPM result.
We met up in The Cafe at Royal Selangor. It’s an in-house cafe which provide customers some food service while shopping here.
The vase used to decorate the table is made with pewter.
Not to mention the sugar container which is also a pewter product.
The most impressive is the Melon Teapot used to serve tea.
You could not have guess the teapot cost RM1700 (about CAD515). The above is a bigger version which costs RM2200 (about CAD667).
We had the special for the day which is lamb with potatoes. The lamb was quite tender and not gamey at all.
If you are not hungry, you can always have a slice of cake with tea in an expensive teapot.
After lunch, we went on a tour of the service center which exhibits historical artifacts and history of Royal Selangor.
Next we went to the factory to have a look at the demonstration stations.
The demonstration stations show various stages of making a pewter product.
Then we went to tour the show room. Selberan is a subsidiary of Royal Selangor which manufactures jewelry. I started my career here before I was transferred to the head office of Royal Selangor.
There is a hands on class which teaches kids how to make a pewter plate from scratch. It’s about RM60 per class if I remembered correctly. You get to bring home the plate you make.
Here are some of the products that catches my eyes in the showroom.
The last photo is the largest pewter tankard in the world since 1985.
PL, thank you for the lunch and bringing us around.
