Food Court in River Rock Casino Resort, Richmond

Ben and I went to check out the Food Court in River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond on a Friday evening after he picked me up from work. There is a Chinese restaurant, a burger place, a pizza and sandwich place and lastly a noodle stall.

We opted for the Chopsticks Noodlehouse.

We ordered the BBQ Duck Noodle Soup. We were surprised that they gave us the duck leg because we did not order the duck leg option which has an extra charge of $1.99.

There are 3 noodle options, oil noodle, thick rice noodle and fresh egg noodle. We picked the fresh egg noodle which turned out slightly on the soft side. The BBQ duck noodle was good with a flavourful broth. If we return, we will certainly order it again.

Credit card is accepted here.

We parked on the side road next to Costco. When we got back to Costco, we had a supplement of Costco fries to supplement our dinner.

Danny’s Screamer Era Ends Today

Danny’s Market which is located on Garden City Road and Francis Road is a popular convenience store for the nearby McRobert’s High School students. Teachers sometimes brought the students to the convenience store for a cold treat on hot spring days.

It is a sad day that the store is closing today, a loss for the neighbourhood.

Danny’s Market had won several Best Corner Store award from the annual Best of Richmond survey from Richmond News.

Danny’s Market is well known for its screamer, created by Abbas Danny Khataw in year 2000. Continue reading

Summer BBQ

Ben and I attended a Summer BBQ event organized by a company on a nice spring day.

One of the food option was Japadog which is popular, judging by the line up.

Ben and I shared the Oroshi which is served with freshly grated radish and a special soya sauce. I did not quite like it as the hotdog looked pale. Sorry for not taking a photo of the hotdog.

We had the Shichimi & Garlic fries which is mildly spicy. The meal also came with a small slice of Matcha cheesecake.

The second food option was BBQ Chicken or Salmon with fixings like crusty bun, grilled corn and orzo salad. Continue reading

Pho Xe Lua 24 on Cambie St., Vancouver

After having an episode of food poisoning on the middle of a work week, I was on BRAT diet for the following 2 days; i.e. just crackers, dry toasts and banana. I lost 1.5kg during that few days. I am sure I will regain my weight once I’m back to my normal diet.

For the first regular meal after the bad experience, I picked something light and easy to digest, pho noodle soup.

I had a small Beef and Chicken ball Pho. I felt that the broth is slightly on the bland side, not sure if it’s due to my poor appetite after the food poisoning.

The bean sprouts and basil were very fresh. Continue reading

Port Moody Shoreline Trail

After having lunch at the Henderson Place Mall, we did some groceries shopping at the New Pacific Supermarket in the mall. We also checked out a Korean style dollar store there. I like to see unique household stuff that we do not find in our day to day store.

On our way home, we drove pass a trail sign and we decided to stop and check it out. After all, our trip to this part of town is not wasted.

The Shoreline Trail in Port Moody follows the line of the original Ioco Road partway between Rocky Point Park and Old Orchard Park in the district of Pleasantside.

The entrance to the trail is lined with the bushes above. The bees are busy working collecting nectar. Continue reading

Henderson Place Mall Foodcourt in Coquitlam

Ben and I intended to explore Belcarra Regional Park on Victoria Day. Unfortunate, we did not make it because there was no parking available. The place was so popular that even the overflow parking was full. We will come back some other day and will definitely come early.

So, we changed our plan to look for a place for lunch instead.  We ended up at Henderson Place Mall. The mall was quiet, not sure if it is because it’s a public holiday.

We went to check out the foodcourt. Ben went for some middle eastern food at Best Donair.

He had falafel with salad and rice. The rice was flavoured with dill. The falafel was fried to crispy on the outside. Ben likes his choice. Ben’s order was $9.60, paid in cash. Continue reading

A Stroll Along New Westminster Pier Park

On a Saturday cloudy morning, Ben and I went for a walk at the New Westminster Pier Park.

This 2.5km waterfront park connects visitors to the mighty Fraser River with a pleasant Waterfront Esplanade Boardwalk.

Our walk started at some very nice residential area with a view of the Fraser River.

A playground for the residential kids.

The Boardwalk is lined with beautiful spring flower beds. Continue reading

Angel Cake House on Fraser St., Vancouver

Ben and I started our weekend ritual on a Friday evening. Ben usually picks me up from work and we will drive to some nearby neighbourhood for dinner.

For this Friday, we went to Angel Cake House for some comfort food.

Besides being a HongKong style restaurant, Angel Cake House also has a cake and dessert counter. We’ll see if we still have room for dessert after our dinner.

We ordered a House Special Chow Mien as we spotted our neighbour customer had some sort of chow mien which looks good. It did not disappoint as the chow mien was still crispy where the sauce has not soak into it. There were generous amount of assortment of meat on top of the noodles. Continue reading

Sunshine Cafe in Crystall Mall, Burnaby

Ben and I went to Crystal Mall for lunch after church service on a Sunday afternoon.

We decided to try the above Taiwanese cafe called Sunshine Cafe.

We picked this cafe because we knew that the foodcourt will be packed at this hour. It will be very difficult to find a table during peak lunch hour.

I ordered the Hot Pot with lamb. It came on a small burner to keep the broth warm.  Continue reading
