Tasty Rice Noodles in Continental Plaza, Richmond

We went out for dinner on a Saturday evening, aiming for Lido but there was no parking available.

So, Ben drove over to Continental Plaza. Finding a parking here is more easy. We spotted a new restaurant taken over the Deer Garden spot. We decided to check it out.

IMG_4647

I like the entrance way to the restaurant.

IMG_4657

Ben ordered the pork bun with onion and fries.

IMG_4658

The ratio of meat and bun seems to be a bit thin. However, Ben does like the bun because it has a crispy crust like a good baguette.

IMG_4659

Ben loves to eat his fries with lots of ketchup. As you can see the earlier photo, it came with a small saucer of ketchup. When Ben asked for more, the server told him that when Ben finishes his saucer of ketchup, he will give him another serving. We find it weird. Most restaurant will bring a bottle of ketchup instead of serving it in a small saucer. So, Ben ended up with 3 saucers, asking for more when he finished what’s on his saucer. (more…)

Lobster Combo from Happy Date Bakery & Restaurant, Park Road

On a Sunday evening, Ben suggested to go to Happy Date Bakery & Restaurant for dinner. He saw a tank full of lobster the other day when we had breakfast here.

IMG_4479

Complimentary daily soup of pork bone and lotus root was flavourful.

IMG_4481

We had the lobster combo with 2 dishes. I added the “yee mien” for an additional $5. Since we wanted noodle with the lobster dish, we had the ginger and green onion flavour so that the noodle can soak up the sauce. The boys picked the meaty and easy to eat part of the lobster. They are not a fan of shell fish or anything with bones in. (more…)

Benss Cafe at Victoria Drive, Vancouver

We intended to go Kedah House for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We wanted to have the all you can eat buffet which will be replaced with mixed dishes style of serving. The owner told us that they are not sure when they will implement it yet. We were disappointed to see that Kedah House was not open. Perhaps they are closed for the Muslim holiday.

IMG_4467

So, Ben suggested we go to Victoria Dr. to look for a place to eat. We decided to eat at Benss Cafe which is a Hong Kong style cafe which our boys agreed to.

IMG_4447

The restaurant was not busy when we arrived just around noon. More customers arrived later.

IMG_4462

I ordered the minced pork and salted fish claypot rice. It was quite a big serving. Luckily, Ben helped me to finish it. (more…)

Gold Stone Bakery & Restaurant on Keefer St., Chinatown

It was a beautiful Sunday morning. Ben and I went to QE Park for a leisure walk.

QE Park (1)

It was a very pleasant morning as it was not too sunny for a walk. I actually enjoys cloudy days.

QE Park (2)

After the walk, we went to Chinatown for early lunch. It’s been a while since we come down to Chinatown. We can clearly see revitalization here with a lot of new buildings.

We ended up having lunch at Gold Stone Bakery & Restaurant on Keefer Street. The restaurant is surprisingly big.

Kingspark Steak House, Richmond

This was another pre-business trip dinner before we dropped off Ben at the YVR.

IMG_3260

Ben wanted something simple, so we just went to Kingspark Steak House for Chinese meal. The above was the complementary daily soup which comes with the Chinese dishes order. This had carrot, some kind of preserved vegetable and pork in it.

IMG_3265

Ben ordered the Sweet and Sour Pork which is a very Cantonese dish. This has a balanced sweet and sourness which is one of the better one that we had. (more…)

Double Double Restaurant Revisit

Ben has not been to Double Double Restaurant as the restaurant is always busy. We were out on a weekend for early lunch and he decided to give it a try. We only waited a few minutes for a table.

IMG_3088

Chinese Donut is a must try here. They are freshly deep fried with all the crunchy goodness.

IMG_3087

The above is listed as Sweet Donut/Pancake on the menu if I remember correctly. I only find this type of savoury pancake (“Hum Jim Baeng” in Cantonese) in this restaurant.

IMG_3089

The fillings is made with fermented bean curd, a unique flavour. (more…)

KD Restaurant at Parker Place, Richmond

On the last Saturday of March, Ben wanted to have ramen for lunch. We went to Parker Place as we remembered there is a ramen restaurant that we have not try before. It was at the location where Ajisen Ramen used to be and this location had changed hand several times.

IMG_3036

When we arrived, we were surprised to see that it’s a new Hong Kong style restaurant now, KD Restaurant.

IMG_3021

There are a lot of flowers gifts inside and outside the restaurant. We also found that some of the servers look very familiar.

IMG_3026

Arkensen ordered his favourite HongKong style noodle, i.e. Satay Beef with instant noodles. This came with bok choy, better than other restaurants which serve sweet peppers in this noodle which Arkensen does not like.

IMG_3030

Ben ordered the Minced Pork with Salted Fish Clay Pot Rice. It is meant to be a single serving but this is enough for two small eaters. (more…)
