BG Urban Cafe at International Place, Richmond

Polly and I met again for our ladies’ get together. This time we went to BG Urban Cafe in Richmond at the International Place. Bread Garden re-branded their franchise recently.

This BG Urban Cafe is located in an industrial area. It caters for the surrounding office workers.

I have not been to Bread Garden before. So, I’m not sure if there is a change to the menu with this new re-branding. You can click on the menu to have a larger view.

This location is surprisingly large. It is pretty busy too. It is equipped with wifi as I saw one of the customer using a notebook in the cafe. There is also seating outside with the better weather now. This place opens really early around 6:30AM and closes at 5:00PM, just to cater for the workers around this industrial park.

The first item we picked is the above Cinnamon Knots with Coffee for $3.49. The coffee is strong as I like it. The cinnamon knots is light and fluffy and laden with sticky sweetness and walnuts. It does look very sweet but… (more…)

Steveston Coffee Co. on Moncton St, Richmond

Jean, my ex-neighbour called me out for coffee. We had not meet since she moved away last October. Time really flies. It’s great to get together again.

Steveston-Coffee-Co-Richmond-1

I decided to go Steveston Coffee Co. in Richmond since I have not been to this place before but heard that they have good coffee. There are many cafes and coffee shops in the Steveston Village, like Waves Coffee, Blenz Coffee, Starbucks, Alegria Cafe & Giftware, Steveston Cannery Cafe, Rocanini, to name a few.

Steveston Coffee came up as number 1 in the Best Coffee (Independent) category in the Best of Richmond Review’s Readers’ poll 2011, follow by Bean and Beyond and La Cuisson.

The aroma of coffee permeated the coffee shop the moment we step inside it. Steveston Coffee Co. also sells house roasted organic coffee beans, in the range of $14 per pound. Like many self service cafe, … (more…)

Cafe de lÓrangerie on Granville St. and W 70 Ave

Polly and I had been to this location before when it was Italia Deli & Cafe. Italia Deli & Cafe was closed down and replaced by Chloe Cafe which is a Vietnamese Cafe. Now, it is taken over by Cafe de l’Orangeri. The name sounds like French but it is a Japanese Fusion Cafe. Upon entrance, there were magazines on a rack which are mostly in Japanese.

The server told us that they had opened for 10 months. The server speaks Japanese. We also noticed a couple of customers who speak Japanese.

The Cafe de lÓrangerie serves typical cafe food like sandwich, panini, salad, soup, etc.

Of course, Polly and I came here for their coffee, desserts and cakes. There is not a lot of choices for desserts and cakes though.

It is clean and the decor is more modern now, compare to Italia Deli & Cafe. It was quiet on a Monday morning. We were there early, about 9:30 AM. It seats about 20 with 3 sofas and 4 counter seats.

Cornerstone on West 4th Ave and Stephens St, Vancouver

Polly and I stumbled upon this neighbourhood cafe on one of our ladies meet. We were actually looking for Farbourg without knowing the address. It’s my mistake as I misplaced the address in another bag and I merely remembered the address is somewhere on West 4th but actually it’s on West 41st. It’s a big blunder of mine.

We were told by the server that this corner cafe has been here for 5 1/2 years already. I wonder if the place got it’s name from the frontage decor or they decorated their frontage according to the name. The sandwich board outside the cafe states that they serve certified organic coffee.

This is a small cafe where you order and pay for your food at the counter. There is a buffet display of drinks, sandwiches and some bake goods. When I asked the server if they make the food themselves, she told me they … (more…)

Simply French Cafe on West 10th Avenue and Alma in Vancouver

Polly and I had the opportunity to meet again after a long break. We last met for cake meet before the school year ended in late June 2010. Life has been busy and Polly has some change to her work schedule. Hopefully the cake meet can continue.

We wanted to go to Cocoa Nymph Chocolate for the Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival initially. When we were there, we found out that other than hot chocolate, Cocoa Nymph Chocolate only offers chocolate. We wanted to have a bite. So, we look around to see if there is place we can go to. Just across the Cocoa Nymph, we saw this Simply French Cafe which looks like a place that suits us.

Simply French Cafe offers croissant, salads, soup, sandwiches, muffins, biscotti and other cookies. It seems like a place for us to have a small bite and chit chat over coffee.

Simply French Cafe is a neighbourhood cafe. The customers include seniors and younger women with a book to read or notebook surfing the internet. It has a rustic look with two simple chandeliers which add elegance to it. At the back of the cafe, (more…)
