My family went out for lunch on a Sunday. Ben and I were surprised that our boys agreed to go for Korean cuisine.

Pearl Castle Cafe in Richmond Center

I went with Lorna to her house after the community kitchen to install a portable backup drive that I helped her to buy during the Black Friday sales. After the job was done, Lorna wanted to go out for afternoon tea. She suggested to go to Pearl Castle Cafe in Richmond Center.

img_0630

We ordered a couple of appetizers. The above deep fried chicken was really good. It was super crunchy outside and moist inside.

img_0629

The second appetizer was deep fried squid. It was served with a Thai sweet chili sauce. This was not bad but I would prefer the deep fried chicken better. (more…)

Beard Papa’s on No. 3 Road

I had to send my car for maintenance on a Tuesday afternoon and had three hours to kill. Coincidentally, Polly called me up a day before to ask me if I wanted to go out for coffee. So, I made arrangement for Polly to pick me up from the automall after I dropped off my car. We went to Beard Papa’s on No. 3 Road for convenience as I can take the free shuttle back to automall from Richmond Center later.

img_0556

We shared a couple of little cakes. The above is Mont Blanc which is a sponge cake iced with chestnuts cream. It is called Mont Blanc as it resembles a snow-capped mountain.

img_0558

The next cake we tried was the Mango Mousse Cake.

img_0562

There is even some mango puree in the center of the cake. (more…)

Matsuyama Japanese Restaurant on Alexandra Road, Richmond

Ben was away and the boys wanted Japanese for lunch on a Sunday afternoon.

img_0545

We went to Matsuyama Japanese Restaurant on Alexandra Road. We were there after 1:30PM and parking did not come easy as the parking lot was full. Nevertheless we managed to find one, otherwise we will have to go somewhere else to eat.

img_0547

Arkensen ordered the Tuna and Salmon Don. Beside sashimi, this is his next favourite item. He commented that the sushi rice here was too vinegarish for his taste.

img_0549

Nanzaro ordered the Lunch Box E which comes with Spicy Salmon Sashimi, Spicy Tuna Roll, Dynamite Roll and Chicken Karaage. I tried a piece of his chicken karaage which was crunchy and hot (i.e. it was made to order). (more…)

Cheng Du Xiao Chi on No. 3 Road, Richmond

Ben and I had just watched an episode of Antony Bourdain Parts Unknown to Chengdu. It inspired us to go for Sichuan food for dinner.

img_0395

Our initial plan was to go to Szechuan Delicious Restaurant across Richmond Center but it was closed that day. So, Ben decided to try Cheng Du Xiao Chi which is located in a small strip mall next Aberdeen Square (just before Aberdeen Square if you travel south to north on No.3 Road).

img_0397

There is a small sign visible from No. 3 Road.

img_0382

It was not too busy as we arrived before 6:00PM.

Emily, Marian, Lorna and I met up as Emily and Marian will be going back to China and Philippines respectively for holiday.

img_0190

We met in Bestie Chicken Pot which is on the Chopstick Fest list which took place from Oct 15-30.

img_0196

We arrived at 6:00PM and the place was not busy yet.

img_0197

We ordered the set menu for 4 for $59.95 from the Chopstick fest menu. The server told us that the chopstick fest menu is limited per night and has to be reserved but they managed to allocate one for us.

img_0199

Since Marian arrived late due to coming from work, we ordered a couple of appetizers first. The above Pig Ear appetizer was a popular dish here as the server told us. The pig ears was on top of a bed of cucumbers and doused with spicy chili oil. They were too spicy for Emily and Lorna as they had to dip them in water to wash off the chili oil before eating them. One of the attendant brought her own tea leaves for us to try. The name of the tea is literary translated to “Big Red Robe”.

The “red” tea was smooth and pleasant. Thank you for the sharing.
