The restaurant is pleasantly decorated. There are private rooms if want to have more privacy.

We started off with miso soup, gomae and sweet and sour daikon. I really like the sweet and sour daikon which helps to cleanse our palate.

Sashimi is limited to 8 pieces per person.

The highlight for me was the Korean BBQ as I’m not a fan of sushi. It’s fun to grill the meat ourselves. (more…)

Gold Stone Bakery & Restaurant on Keefer St., Chinatown

It was a beautiful Sunday morning. Ben and I went to QE Park for a leisure walk.

QE Park (1)

It was a very pleasant morning as it was not too sunny for a walk. I actually enjoys cloudy days.

QE Park (2)

After the walk, we went to Chinatown for early lunch. It’s been a while since we come down to Chinatown. We can clearly see revitalization here with a lot of new buildings.

Ladies’ Meet at Water St. Cafe, Vancouver

I met up with Polly and Whitney in Gastown for a get together. It was a rainy day again just like the past couple of our get together.

IMG_3193

Since, it was raining, we did not go far from where Whitney works. We had dinner at Water St. Cafe.

IMG_3184

We started off with an appetizer of Calamari Fritti as recommended by Whitney. These were light and crispy and served with garlic aioli and preserved orange.

IMG_3182

Complementary warm bread with good crust.

IMG_3186

Since we like to share our dishes, Whitney also recommended the Rigatoni with Italian Sausage. The Italian Sausage has some spiciness in it. This is served with some shaved fennel and grated Parmesan and freshly ground black pepper. (more…)

The Soup House revisit

Ben had been craving for some good hotpot rice lately. But his plan is always disrupted by our boys who wanted something else.

IMG_2897

Finally, Ben had decided to stick to his plan on a Saturday evening. We returned to The Soup House as we remembered the hotpot rice was good here.

Complementary soup of the day and seaweed which comes with the hotpot rice. Nanzaro likes the crunchy seaweed and he had all of them.

IMG_2898

Ben also ordered a Pork Stomach Soup which he loves. This has plenty of pork stomach. But I find the soup on the sweet side.

IMG_2899

We ordered two hotpot rice to share. The first is Salted Fish Minced Pork. It came with seasonal vegetables which happens to be bok choy. (more…)

Girls Night Out at Nuba on W. Hasting St., Vancouver

Angie of Seasaltwithfood.com, Polly, Whitney and I met up again in downtown Vancouver for dinner.

IMG_2617

Whitney who works in Gastown, shortlisted a few places for us to pick for the meet up and the winner is Nuba. We were there at 5PM and Nuba is still not busy yet. I think Whitney told us that Nuba only takes reservation after 5:45PM, so we just walk in at 5PM.

IMG_2618

We decided to order from the sharing menu, one order of Le Feast (for 2) and one order of Le Grand Feast (for 2).  LeFeast is a vegetarian option while Le Grand Feast has meat.

We got 2 servings of the above which include hummus, taboulleh, baba ghanooj and pickled cabbage.

IMG_2619

The above was served with pita bread.

IMG_2620

Angie had wine while Polly had ginger beer. Whitney and I preferred just water.

IMG_2621

The above is the main platter for Le Feast. It includes (starting from the salad clock wise) fattoush salad, macedonian feta, olives, mujadara (a Lebanese lentil dish), a vegan stew, crispy cauliflower and falafel. (more…)
