Here are some snacks that Ben and I had in Beijing.
A road side stand selling “kuey” like snack.
It is a savoury snack; filled with meat. The outer shell is sticky like mochi.

Ben and I went for lunch at Golden Leopard International Buffet on a Friday.
This is the biggest buffet we had ever been too. Buffet lunch is at RMB198 (CAD33) per person and limit to 1 1/2 hours.
There is even a life band performing in the buffet.
The spread is huge. There is even a map of the spread for your guidance.

Ben and I had lunch at Yu Xiang Kitchen, near the Guomao area.
A savoury tofu pudding dish; the soy beans add crunchiness; contrast to the smooth tofu pudding.

We bought these Chinese pastries from a road side stand while on the way to lunch.
The pastries came in different flavours, like milk, peanut, osmanthus, etc. I cannot recall now what are the rest of the flavours but I remembered we bought one each. All the above plus one that we ate at a restaurant was RMB15 (CAD2.50).
The pastry was flaky. Here are more close up view of the rest of the pastries.

Ben and I wanted a light dinner since we had hot pot lunch at Xiabu Xiabu. Unfortunately, no photography is allowed at Xiabu Xiabu.
Ben decided to have our dinner take out from Yoshinoya, a Japanese fast food chain.

Ben had a meeting at the office. He came home just in time for lunch.
Ben and I walked to a nearby Shanxi Restaurant for lunch.
The Shanxi Restaurant is famous for it’s hand shaved noodle.
The restaurant even has an Ultraman looking robotic chef to shave noodle. But it was not working when I was there.

Ben brought me to have lunch at Western Mahua, a Xinjiang restaurant.
We had Enoki Salad as appetizer. This was crunchy and refreshing.
We also had lamb skewers which was tender and moist.
The above was crispy beef strips coasted with sesame seeds. It’s a great snack. (more…)
