Lao Shan Dong on Kingsway, Burnaby

On Boxing day morning, we went out early as Nanzaro wanted to shop for his stuff.

IMG_6780

The good thing about waking up early is to be able to watch a spectacular sun rise.

IMG_6792

We went to Metrotown to shop. It was very crowded as the Chinese saying “people mountain people sea”.

IMG_6790

After walking for hours, we went across the street to have lunch. Initially, we wanted to go to Cattle Cafe but there was a line waiting for table. So, we changed our destination to Lao Shan Dong. It was just a short wait for a table.

Lao Shan Dong used to be a very popular place but there are many competitive restaurants in the same area now.

We ordered an appetizer to munch while waiting for our noodles. The spicy bamboo shoot was crunchy and mildly spicy. I like the texture. (more…)

Main Island Cafe on Kingsway, Burnaby

Ben was off work on a Friday, in replacement for him working on Thanksgiving day. We planned to go for lunch at Saffron Indian Cuisine. Arkensen and Nanzaro love Indian food, so they did not protest even we had to drive across the bridge.

By the time we reached Burnaby, it was past noon and that was a busy lunch hour, especially on a Friday. The wait at Saffron is going to be long and we can’t predict the wait by looking at the tables because it is a buffet setting.

So, Ben suggested the Main Island Cafe a few doors away. It is one of his favourite lunch spot.

German Breakfast at Fraser Park Restaurant on Byrne Road, Burnaby

It was Ben’s off day on Friday in exchange of working on Canada day. But he had to take a call at 6:30AM. So, I accompanied him to his office as he planned to have a morning walk with me after that.

IMG_4383

As it was just 8AM, there is not many restaurants open that early, Ben thought of Fraser Park Restaurant which he had not been to for a while. We just missed Anton who is the owner of the restaurant. He is retired now but he came in early in the morning to take do his round of inspection before he went off to enjoy his day.

Ben and I shared a German Deluxe breakfast as the portion here is big. It consist of 3 eggs scrambled with sauteed peppers, onion and cheese served with hash brown, sausage, bacon, ham, 1 piece potato pancake and toast.

The server also gave us a new spicy sausage to try. The deluxe version also include a piece of Schnitzel and gravy. Ben and I were full even though we shared it. It was a great breakfast.

The server also brought us Sylvia’s special chili sauce for us as she remembers we like it. Sylvia is Anton’s wife and she manages the restaurant now. (more…)

Bubble Cafe Waffle and Bubble World on Kingsway

On a lovely Saturday morning, Ben and I wanted to go for a walk in Central Park. Before the walk, we decided to grab a light breakfast in Crystal Mall food court.

20150516_105355

We decided to share a bowl of noodle from Bubble Waffle Cafe. There were not many stalls that open that early.

20150516_110125

We had a Spicy Minced Pork Mixed Noodle. It was on the salty side but we like the numbing spiciness of it.

20150516_110157

I also ordered a plain bubble waffle to snack on. It was crispy on the outside and lightly chewy inside. The bill came to $8.50.
