Sanbo Restaurant at Brighouse Square, Richmond

This was a dinner on a Sunday evening. It was about 6:30pm and Sanbo Restaurant was full house. There were even people waiting for a table outside the restaurant. When Ben checked with the waitress, she told us the wait will be 15 minutes. But we waited for more than half and hour for a table. Never trust them about the waiting time as it is always longer than they anticipated.

The above was the complimentary daily soup. There is no way to get Arkensen and Nanzaro to try it. It looked unappetizing like some kind of bitter Chinese medicine. Fortunately, it tasted alright. I presumed the colour is from some of the Chinese herbs in the soup.

We ordered 4 dishes to share. Ben wanted to have their specialty chicken but it was sold out that evening. The above was Halibut and Tofu in Hot Pot.

The second hot pot dish was Assorted Seafood with Vermicelli in Satay Sauce. There were a fair amount of pineapples, sweet peppers and onions in it. (more…)

Cantonese BBQ Restaurant on Capstan Way, Richmond

My family went out for dinner on a Saturday evening. Only Nanzaro came with us as Arkensen was in the midst of doing his homework and he did not want to be interrupted.

We went to the new (to us) Cantonese B.B.Q. Restaurant on Capstan Way, Richmond. We did not see a lot of BBQ meat from the window.

IMG_7328

The menu cover is nice. We ordered a combo for 3 at $50 which comes with 2 BBQ meat and two dishes.

Complimentary daily soup.

IMG_7332

We had BBQ duck and BBQ pork for the 2 BBQ meat because we had roasted pork from HK BBQ master the day before. (more…)

Annual Friends of Tai Chi Celebration Dinner

Lorna invited me to the 9th annual dinner of Friends of Tai Chi in the middle of March. Lorna was a Tai Chi student before.

IMG_3003

I knew the master Tai Chi, Annie through the multicultural community kitchen in Gilmore Park Church some time ago. There were several Tai Chi demonstrations prior to the dinner.

The celebration was held at the Continental Seafood Restaurant on Cambie Road. From the conversation, I learned that it’s difficult to book a restaurant for function nowadays. One of the popular restaurant for banquet like Shiang Garden Seafood Restaurant has closed down the lower floor for a hotpot restaurant.

IMG_3005

Here are the dishes for the banquet. First up was the appetizer platter which consists of several items like roast chicken, BBQ duck, pork hock slices, another kind of slice meat and jelly fish. The serving here is generous. (more…)

Lucky Joy BBQ Restaurant on Thorpe Road, Richmond

Ben suggested to go to Lucky Joy Restaurant near King George Park in Richmond. It has been a long while since we dine here. The restaurant looks nicer now.

IMG_1854

We ordered from the Special Combination menu; 3 dish combo for $48.80. Ben wanted to add a lobster dish for an extra $10 but the boys protested.

IMG_1856

The above fried chicken wing was complementary from the combo dish. They were fried to crispy on the outside and still moist inside. Nanzaro had two pieces because Arkensen does not like anything with bones.

IMG_1857

Ben’s pick for our combo; it was a starred item on the list. The above was Chicken Steamed with Lotus Leaf. It was a huge serving. Ben loves the chicken leg pieces which were tender with a hint of herbal scent from the red dates and goji berries. (more…)

Canton & Zhejiang Cuisine at Capstan Way, Richmond

Ben and I drove around Capstan Way looking for a place to have lunch after groceries shopping at Costco.

010

We found a new restaurant by the name Canton & Zhejiang Cuisine. So, without a doubt we gave it a try.

002

Canton & Zhejiang Cuisine has taken over the East Fusion Food which was in business not long. The exhaust pipe for hot pot (previous owner before East Fusion Food) are covered up with Chinese decor now.

001

Upon seated down, we noticed a promotional item on the table; Chicken, rice and soup for $3.95. Of course we would love to try this.

005

We ordered the Drunken Chicken version which was quite nice except quite bony. (more…)
