Fraser Court Restaurant on Fraser St., Vancouver

It was a pouring Saturday morning where Nanzaro participated in the Eastside 10K run. He got a free run as his design for the T-shirt for the run was one of the five finalists.

IMG_6206

Nanzaro wanted dim sum after his run. We went to Fraser Court Restaurant to reward him.

The place was full when we arrived. Moreover, a part of the dining room was partitioned off for some special function. We waited for a little while for a table. Ben noticed that they actually gave available table to some regular customers before us even though we arrived earlier.

Nanzaro wanted either Ha Kow or Shiu Mai. Ben ordered the Shiu Mai (steamed pork dumplings) which has some kind of fish in it too. It was quite a big dumpling.

IMG_6196

The Sticky Fried Rice with Chinese Sausage is another Nanzaro’s favourite dish. This mini version is $6.95. (more…)

Dim Sum Lunch at Ningbo Seafood Restaurant

Emily, Lorna, Marian and I met up to celebrate Marian’s belated birthday. We had lunch at Ningbo Seafood Restaurant. We made the appointment at 1PM. I picked up Lorna early, just past 12PM because I know parking here is difficult and I managed to find a parking on the 2nd floor parking in less than 10 minutes.

IMG_4428

Emily and Marian who came on time took 30 minutes to find their parking spots on this weekday lunch.

IMG_4429

Always enjoy menu with photos.

IMG_4431

We decided to go for the specials of the day except for the pork feet soup.

IMG_4433

We had a Celery & Fish Tick Soup instead. (more…)

Pre-Mother’s Day Dim Sum at Parklane Chinese Restaurant, Richmond

Polly and I went for a pre-mother’s day celebration on a Friday morning. We intended to go to Beard Papa’s but it was not opened yet at 9AM. Apparently, Beard Papa’s has changed it’s business hour to start at 11AM. I emailed Beard Papa’s in March and was told it’s opening hour was 9AM at that time.

IMG_3289

Well, since Beard Papa’s is not opened yet, we decided to go for dim sum nearby at Parklane Restaurant which opens at 9AM. Since it just opens for business for the day, it was still pretty empty but tables quickly filled up.

IMG_3290

Tea charges is $1 per person.

IMG_3291

We ordered one of the special of the day which is Clay Pot Rice with  Sparerib and Chinese Sausage. It was a pretty good serving size considering the price is only $3.95. (more…)

Neptune Seafood Restaurant on No. 3 Road, Richmond

Once again, Ben is craving for dim sum. We went to Neptune Seafood Restaurant on a Sunday afternoon on prompto.  That is not a good idea and the restaurant was packed. We had to wait for 30 minutes for our table. As we waited, we noticed that most of the customers coming in had reservation.

IMG_2567

This time, I ordered “Iron Goddess” tea. I’m impressed that the cover of the tea pot is actually printed with the tea name. Most dim sum restaurants will have a slip of paper placed on top of the tea pot to indicate the tea name.

IMG_2568IMG_2577

You can click on the menu to have a larger view. Prices are on the higher end.

IMG_2570

First course is Pork Kidney/Liver Congee. Single serving is $6.98. The congee is slightly on the watery side. Luckily we only ordered the single serving as the boys did not touch it.

IMG_2571IMG_2572

BBQ Pork Buns is $4.68. It was served piping hot, so be careful when biting into it. (more…)

Park Here Seafood Restaurant on Kingsway, Vancouver

Ben has the crave for dim sum lately. It’s a good place to have a variety of food in small plates.

IMG_2484

This dim sum restaurant is on Kingsway where Vietnamese restaurants dominated the scene. Park Here Seafood Restaurant is a Vietnamese Dim Sum restaurant as the signboard below indicates.

IMG_2482

Park Here is just a direct mimic of the phonetic of its Chinese name which literally translated to hundred happiness.

IMG_2473

We ascertained that it’s a Vietnamese Dim Sum restaurant because the man who managed the counter speaks Vietnamese and Cantonese.

IMG_2469

There are life fish in tanks in view from the dining hall as this is a seafood restaurant.

IMG_2468IMG_2471

After browsing at the dim sum menu above, Ben decided to order all the three dishes with a star denominator. You can click on the menu to have a larger view.

IMG_2474

The first star item is Beef Tendon Brisket with Rice Flour Roll from the kitchen specialties. (more…)

Star Anise Restaurant on Kingsway, Vancouver

On Boxing Day, Nanzaro hanged out with us for shopping in Metrotown. Ben suggested to go for dim sum again and he agreed.

IMG_2444

We went to Star Anise Restaurant, the former location of Samosa Garden.

IMG_2430

The restaurant is nicely decorated and seating is not tide.

IMG_2431

The first thing after seated down is to order tea. I ordered Chrysanthemum tea this time.

IMG_2432

The order chit is fancy, with colour photo of the dish. We like it. (more…)

Golden Swan Restaurant on Victoria Dr, Vancouver

Ben and I went out for brunch during his “staycation”. He has to clear his annual leave and we do not have a plan to travel. So, he calls it staycation, i.e. stay home vacation.

IMG_2415

We did not plan to come here but an early destination was either not open yet or we were not able to find a parking spot. And fate is there is just a parking spot right in front of Golden Swan Restaurant.

IMG_2412

Typical decor for a Chinese restaurant. The decor is very common for Chinese wedding celebration.

IMG_2405

It’s a good thing there are dim sum on carts served here.

Golden Swan Menu (1)Golden Swan Menu (2)

You can order dim sum special and lunch special from the menu above, but we did not even check it out as all our items were from the cart or served by server who brings out food fresh from the kitchen. (more…)

Yue Delicacy Restaurant on Alexandra Road, Richmond

Marian, Lorna and I met up before Christmas. We went to the new dim sum restaurant on Alexandra Road, Yue Delicacy Restaurant.

IMG_2347

Yue opens at 10:30am. We were there just before 11:00am and the parking lot was pretty empty.

IMG_2350

The restaurant looks nice but the seating seems  a bit tide especially with many big round tables.

IMG_2349

We had Jasmine tea for its more subtle flavour. A pot of hot water is also served along the tea pot.

Yue Delicacy Menu (1)Yue Delicacy Menu (2)

A glance at the menu reviews a slightly higher price menu. You can click on the menu to have a larger view.

IMG_2351

We ordered several dim sum items and a noodle to share. Surprisingly, the first item to arrive was the noodle. We had the stir-fry steamed rice noodle with XO sauce for $9.95. There were plenty of chive and bean sprouts in it with just a hint of spiciness. (more…)

Dim Sum at Parklane Chinese Restaurant on Westminster Hwy

I met up with Lorna for dim sum at Parklane Chinese Restaurant on Westminster Hwy.

029

Parklane is located in the London Plaza where Empire Seafood Restaurant is located too.

003

We had a nice window seat with a view of Richmond Center.

001

I ordered Chrysanthemum tea but what we got was Iron Goddess which gets bitter the longer it steeps.

Paarklane Dim Sum menu

Parklane Chinese Restaurant has some Chiu Chow dim sum and dishes besides the regular Hong Kong style dim sum and dishes. You can click on the menu to have a larger view.

011

We ordered one of the Chiu Chow dim sum; Steamed Pork and Radish Dumpling with Peanut. The radish and peanut adds some crunchiness while the skin is chewy. This is $4.45.

016

We also ordered another Chiu Chow marinated item from the kitchen wonders. The above is Marinated Egg and Tofu Slices. The tofu is silky smooth and the marinated egg is fabulous with the semi liquid yolk. This dish is served with a garlic vinegarish dip. This is $6.80.

014

The above is another Chiu Chow dim sum; Steamed Fish and Seaweed Roll. This is $4.75. Something different from regular Hong Kong style dim sum. (more…)

Chef Tony in Richmond

There is a new dim sum restaurant on the previous King Buffet location. It is very rare for a Chinese restaurant to be named after it’s chef; Chef Tony is the name of the restaurant.

028

We came on a Sunday morning. We arrived at 11:45AM and was told the wait will be 30 minutes since we did not have a reservation.

008

The decoration of Chef Tony is modern and the paint work is very shiny, not typical of dim sum restaurant. Do not be misled by these empty waiting seats. They were occupied most of the time.

025

The entrance is decorated with photos of Chef Tony with some celebrities, I presumed.

010

We waited for almost an hour before we got our table. So, reservation is highly recommended if you decided to give this restaurant a try.

013009

The charge for tea is $2 per person is a little steep. We had Chrysanthemum tea.

004005002006

We spent our waiting time browsing through the menu which has lots of pictures. You can click on the menu to have a larger view.

013

We ordered 6 items to share but when one of the item was missing. We just let it go.

012

Fried Glutinous Rice with mushroom and Chinese sausage from the chef choices. The rice was al-dante as it should be but the serving is small for $8.95. (more…)
