NamNam Noodle on Main St., Vancouver

It’s TGIF. Ben picked me up from work and we made it a Friday dine out night to start the weekend.

We drove to Main St. to look for a dine out place. We could not decide where to eat and was thinking maybe we will revisit Hawker’s Delight. When we walked towards Hawker’s Delight, we noticed a new restaurant just a few doors away. So, we changed our plan and went to NamNam Noodle.

NamNam Noodle is a Chinese restaurant which serves hand pulled noodle.

The poster seems inviting enough for us with a reasonable price. (more…)

Chef Cong Cong in the Pacific Plaza Foodcourt, Richmond

My family went to the Pacific Plaza Foodcourt for lunch on a Saturday afternoon.

Ben and I decided to share something from Chef Cong Cong which serves cuisine from Northern China.

We had the Tofu with Pork Innards Noodle Soup, price at CAD9.50. It has lung, intestines and tripe. I only ate the tofu and leave the rest for Ben to enjoy. He loves the gamey taste of the innards.

I also ordered a deep fried dough which was displayed on the counter with some Chinese donuts. The deep fried dough was quite oily when I used my fingers to tear it into smaller pieces for dunking into the broth. It has similar flavour like the savoury pancake from  Double Double Restaurant.  This is CAD2. This stall only accepts cash.

Lu Charcoal Grill on No. 3 Road, Richmond

Ben and I went out for lunch on a work week day. He came home early as he had to renew his passport.

We went to Lu Charcoal Grill in the Brighouse strip mall. Lu Charcoal Grill opens for breakfast at 9:30am.

img_0746

The place is decorated with soccer memorabilias.

img_0747

I like the lantern lighting with a warm glow.

img_0754

We ordered two combo breakfast items to share. The first combo (Combo 1, $8.95) consists of Chinese crepes (Jian Bing). Their version was a bit soggy, even the crispy dough was not crispy. (more…)

Home BBQ (Dachuanjia) on Ackroyd Road, Richmond

Lorna and I went groceries shopping at Pricemart. We decided to grab a bite before that.

IMG_6581

We went to the newly opened Home BBQ (Dachuanjia) at the strip mall where Suhang and Nando’s are located.

IMG_6580

I came here for the BBQ lamb skewers but unfortunately, the BBQ is only served at dinner time.

IMG_6578

Dachuanjia is a small restaurant with about 20 to 22 seats. It was decorated with colorful art work.

IMG_6568

The main item served for lunch is the above Customized Noodle. It was rather pricey for $14.99.

IMG_6571

The serving was big, good for two small eaters. We had beef and lamb for the meat, enoki mushroom and leaf lettuce for the veges, medium spicy broth and hand cut noodle for the noodle. (more…)

IMG_4711

We drove along Fraser St., to look for a restaurant and we ended up at Yu Xiang Yuan Restaurant.

IMG_4709

We were particularly interested in the hand pulled noodle.

IMG_4696

The restaurant had just opened for business for the day and we were their first customers.

IMG_4701

Kungfu Noodle on Alexandra Road, Richmond

We intended to go for dinner at Cattle Cafe on Alexandra Road on a weekend. But we were surprised to see that it has been replaced by another cafe. So, we went to Kungfu Noodle next door with the consent of the boys.

IMG_4386

Nanzaro ordered the Kungfu Dark Fried Rice. This is more like Malaysian style fried rice. Nanzaro said he even sensed a hint of belacan in it.

IMG_4394

Nanzaro enjoyed his fried rice with lots of chili.

IMG_4387

Ben ordered the Pita Bread Soaked in Lamb Soup which is a popular dish in Xian. The difference here is we do not get to tear up the pita bread ourselves. It is served cut up into perfect cubes. (more…)

Silkway Halal Cuisine on Saba Road, Richmond

I picked Silkway Halal Cuisine for Mother’s Day and birthday celebrations. I felt short change because my birthday is near mother’s day and I only got to celebrate once.

IMG_3383

The parking spots at rear are quite small and difficult to park.

This was a Sichuan restaurant before and now it changed to a halal restaurant. So, Muslim can eat here.

IMG_3369

The decoration is still the same as the previous restaurant. The theme of wooden furniture has an antique look to it. Arkensen commented that the chairs are very uncomfortable as they are hard.

We saw the Chinese award plaque as we walk to our table.

IMG_3375

We ordered the award wining Sliced Lamb with Pickled Cabbage in Hot Pot. It was alright. The sourness of the pickled cabbage kind of whet up our appetite. This soup is slightly spicy as there are some green chilies in it. (more…)

Kung Fu Noodle on Alexandra Road, Richmond

Marian and I intended to buy Lorna lunch at a new noodle restaurant in Alexandra Road to celebrate her birthday.

IMG_2549

King Fu Noodle is located next to Cattle Cafe which we just blogged not long ago.

IMG_2537

We were the first customers there at 11:00AM on a week day. The seating is not cramp.

IMG_2536

Their menu is complete with photos.

IMG_2538

Marian was in-charged of ordering as she had dined here before. The above was Red-Cooked Chicken in the appetizer section. It was served cold and had five spice flavour. This is $4.99.

IMG_2541

The second appetizer we ordered was Shredded Potato with Chili for $3.59. It was not very spicy but had a vinegarish taste and a crunchy texture. (more…)

Old Xian’s Food on Alexandra Road, Richmond

When Ben told me that there is a new Xian restaurant in Richmond via Tiffanie’s of Eating Club Vancouver posting on facebook, I told Ben to go there the next day. It brings back memory of our trip to Xian. Before this discovery, the place I can find Xian food is at the Richmond Public Market.

IMG_2464

Old Xian’s Food is located between Deer Garden and Haroo, the only strip mall where restaurants are found on the second level on Alexandra Road.

IMG_2466

The poster in front of restaurant immediately brings back memory of the Biang Biang Noodle we had at Xian.

IMG_2446

The restaurant was not busy when we were there on a Sunday afternoon. The wall is decorated with some very colourful art.

IMG_2445

The menu is simple, just a one page menu. You can click on the menu to have a larger view.

IMG_2450

Ben ordered the Lamb Meat in Soup for $9.75. (more…)
