Tian Shi Fu Restaurant on No. 3 Road, Richmond

My family went out for lunch on a Saturday afternoon except Nanzaro as he was at work.

We went to Tian Shi Fu on No. 3 Road which shares a space with Sharetea.

We were there before noon and the place was not too busy yet. However, it took a long time for the server to come to our table to take the order and we had to get the attention of the server to come to our table. On top of that, we were not even served any drink as other customers did get water.

Ben ordered a Wuhan Noodle from the appetizer section to start with. It is similar to the noodle we tried at Chu Resto in Aberdeen Foodcourt. The serving was quite big even though the bowl does not look big. It was packed with noodles. The sauce was slightly spicy with sesame paste. We like it. (more…)

Szechuan Delicious on No. 3 Road, Richmond Closing Soon

Our family had been trying to come to this restaurant more often once we learned that the current location will be closed in July due to redevelopment. We really hope they will find a new home.

When we come as a family of four, we always get the combo for 4 for CAD52. We like it because for that we get two appetizers and choose four main dishes. You cant beat that for value because Szechuan cuisine is generally more expensive than other Chinese cuisine. We sure are going to miss this place when it closes soon.

The free appetizers are Spicy Pig Ears and Mung Bean Noodle in a tangy and spicy sauce. Ben likes the sauce so much that sometime we bring our own container to take the leftover sauce home as we dare not ask the server to pack the sauce to go.

There are three choices for the fish dish; Water Boiled Fish, Fish with Tofu (that’s our choice this time) and Fish with Preserved Vegetable. Ben commented that the fish is good, just wonder what fish is it. (more…)

Hainan Kitchen on Blundell Road, Richmond

It’s only Arkensen and us went our for dinner that Saturday as Nanzaro went out for dinner with his friends.

We did not want to go too far, so we went to the Garden City Shopping Centre. Arkensen picked the Hainan Kitchen for dinner.

Hainan Kitchen is kind of like an Asian fast food place. Customer order and pays at the counter and when the food is ready, you pick it up from the counter. The operation is like a food court but this is an individual stall with it’s own seating area.

The menu is simple; just a few items. Arkensen ordered their signature dish, Hainan Chicken Rice. Arkensen likes this especially when the chicken is deboned. It came with three types of sauces; chili sauce, ginger onion sauce and a green onion pesto. (more…)

Typhoon BBT on Cambie Road, Richmond

On a Friday evening, Ben got a text from Arkensen after picking me up from work that his bus was way late for its regular schedule. So, we had to change our plan of eating out in Vancouver and went back to Richmond to pick Arkensen up.

After picking Arkensen up, we decided to go to Typhoon BBT for dinner since we were near that neighbourhood.

The restaurant was not too busy when we arrived around 6:30PM.

Arkensen ordered the Beef Shank and Tendons Noodle Soup. (more…)

Daddy's Grill on No. 5 Road, Richmond

Ben and I went to Daddy’s Grill on No. 5 Road after Sunday church service.

We arrived just a few minutes before 1PM and the restaurant had just opened for business for the day.

We were one of the first customers of the day but the place quickly filled up. Customer places order and pay at the counter and then find their own seat.

We ordered a couple items to share. The first item is Cholo Vaziri; a combination of two skewers of meat served with basmati rice, grilled tomato, house salad and tzatziki. (more…)

Danny's Screamer Era Ends Today

Danny’s Market which is located on Garden City Road and Francis Road is a popular convenience store for the nearby McRobert’s High School students. Teachers sometimes brought the students to the convenience store for a cold treat on hot spring days.

It is a sad day that the store is closing today, a loss for the neighbourhood.

Danny’s Market had won several Best Corner Store award from the annual Best of Richmond survey from Richmond News.

Danny’s Market is well known for its screamer, created by Abbas Danny Khataw in year 2000. (more…)
