Karakoram Restaurant in Victoria Drive, Vancouver

On a weekend, my family went to Karakoram Restaurant for lunch.

Karakoram Restaurant took over Tibisti which was also a middle eastern restaurant which offered all you can eat.

We were there before noon and the restaurant was very quiet. It is still an all you can eat place.

We went to take a quick look at the buffet before we decided to go ahead with the all you can eat at $14.99 per person. The above are the salad and condiment bar.

Chicken Biryani, Lemon Potatoes, Mixed Vegetable Stew, … (more…)

Panos Greek Taverna on SE Marine Dr, Vancouver

My office celebrated the birthday of a colleague on a Friday. We ordered lunch from Panos Greek Taverna on SE Marine Dr which is 5 minutes drive away.

My colleague called up Panos Greek Cuisine to place the take out order at 11:00AM, when the restaurant opens for lunch. We told the restaurant that we will pick up our orders at 12:00PM. When one of my colleague arrived at the restaurant 5 minutes past 12:00PM, he was asked to wait. He waited for 20 minutes before our food were ready. That is how busy the restaurant is.
I had the Chicken Souvlaki which comes with Greek salad, potato, rice and tzatziki. All of us swapped the tzatziki with hummus except one but somehow, all our orders came with hummus. We preferred hummus as it goes better with the pita bread.

There were plenty of pita bread left over as most of us only had half a pita bread.

Here are some of the items that my colleagues ordered: Prawn Souvlaki. (more…)

Le Petit Saigon at East Hastings, Vancouver

Ben and I had dinner at the Le Petit Saigon on East Hastings on the day we went to the PNE.

Le Petit Saigon was quite busy on a Friday night. We also noticed quite a number of take out orders.

We ordered two items to share. The first item was Grilled Beef and BBQ Minced Pork over Vermicelli. We enjoy this Asian style salad. (more…)

Duffin's Donut on E 41st Ave, Vancouver

Ben and I went to Duffin’s donuts for a light lunch after church service on a Sunday.

Duffin’s donut is a Vancouver iconic restaurant serving donuts, sandwich and fritou chicken. The Chinese food section had closed though.

We did not have the fritou chicken this time as we just wanted something light.

There is a lot of options for sandwich. Customer orders and pays at the counter and wait for their number to be called to collect the food. (more…)

BT Cafe on Kingsway, Vancouver

Ben and I visited BT Cafe for dinner on a week day when we were in the neighborhood to run errands.

It’s been a long time since we came back to this restaurant. Even the banner has aged.

It was not too busy around 6:30PM. We noticed that the server knows the customers well from their conversation. They must be regulars and live the neighbuorhood.

Ben ordered his comfort dish; Egg Swirl Rice Noodle. This dish tasted right on the spot and the serving is quite big; enough for both of us to share. (more…)

Bahn Mi Saigon on Victoria Drive, Vancouver

Ben decided to have Bahn Mi for lunch after church service on a Sunday.

We went to Bahn Mi Saigon on Victoria Drive, Vancouver.

The place was very busy around 1PM. There is a few small tables in the restaurant but most people just take out and go. There is also fresh baguette for sale @ $2.75. Quite a few people bought the baguette while we were there.

There was an assembly line at the preparation counter. One person does the spreading of butter & pork liver pate, another fills the cold cut and other meat and the next person will fill with fresh cucumber slices, pickled carrots and white radish and cilantro and top with chili sauce. The last person will wrap the baguette.

Nabegugyo Hot Pot Cuisine on Cambie St., Vancouver

Ben and I finally get to try the ramen hot pot from Nabegugyo Hot Pot Cuisine on Cambie St. on a Friday evening.

We had wanted to check this place out for several times but just did not make it.

There is a communal long U shape table and several 2 and 4 seater tables. We were seated at the communal table. It reminds me of a hot pot place named Xiabu Xiabu that Ben and I like to go to when we were in Beijing. I did not blog about it because no photography is allowed in Xiabu Xiabu.

We were served an appetizer of sea weed salad before our food arrive.

Ben ordered the Sukiyaki Hot Pot with pork but they gave him pork instead. It came with a bowl of steam rice and … (more…)

Pho Xe Lua 24 on Cambie St., Vancouver

After having an episode of food poisoning on the middle of a work week, I was on BRAT diet for the following 2 days; i.e. just crackers, dry toasts and banana. I lost 1.5kg during that few days. I am sure I will regain my weight once I’m back to my normal diet.

For the first regular meal after the bad experience, I picked something light and easy to digest, pho noodle soup.

I had a small Beef and Chicken ball Pho. I felt that the broth is slightly on the bland side, not sure if it’s due to my poor appetite after the food poisoning.

The bean sprouts and basil were very fresh. (more…)
