After an early dinner at Hapa Izakaya, Polly, Whitney and I decided to move to Trees Organic Coffee in Gastown for dessert. It is quieter here to have a conversation.…
Polly, Whitney and I met up for a ladies get together in downtown sometime in the middle of January. It’s been a month since we last met.
Whitney suggested either Cincin or Hapa Izakaya. I chose Hapa Izakaya which I have not blog before.
We arrived around 5:00PM. The restaurant was not too busy yet.
Our server told us it’s still happy hour time with a smaller menu. You can click on the menu to have a larger view.
We ordered a few items from the happy hour menu to start with. The above is Ika Okonomiyaki Bites, which is lightly fried “Japanese pancake” with wasabi-mayonnaise dipping sauce. This pancake bites were more doughy than the original okonomiyaki which I had eaten before. The original version will have a lot of cabbage. (more…)
Nanzaro went for a hockey game in October. He had dinner at downtown Vancouver before the game. He went to the Basil Pasta Bar on Davie St. Basil Pasta Bar is…
After having lunch at The Place Restaurant, we took a short stroll along the neighbourhood. We were looking for food to go for our boys. We came across Sushi King…
Ben wanted the family hot pot for lunch. We had this Shanghainese dish at The Place Restaurant on Granville Street a while ago.
It looks like The Place Restaurant has changed into a Sichuan Restaurant.
The restaurant has a fresh coat of paint but the tables and chairs still look the same; especially the chair covers.
The menu has some photos of the dishes. (more…)
Ben and I went for a walk at the north side of the False Creek on a gloomy Saturday morning. It drizzled before we started the walk and we were glad that we did not give up and continued with our walk. We walked 20,000 steps that morning.
After the walk, Ben rewarded me with a good lunch. He brought me to Stephos. Since it was still 5 minutes before the restaurant opened for lunch, there was only one group of about 10 in line.
Ben ordered Humous for our appetizer. It was garlicky.
The humous came with three pillowy pita bread. The hummus and pita bread can be a meal by itself. (more…)
This was a snack before Lorna and I went for a dinner at Floata Seafood Restaurant a while ago. Lorna did not have time to go for lunch and she was…
Polly, Whitney and I had the opportunity to meet up on a week day afternoon as they were both off work.
When coming to going to downtown, I usually meet up with Polly at the Bridgeport Skystation. On this day, Polly was almost an hour late as she could not find a parking at the River Rock parking. She drove around the parking lot for almost an hour before she can find a spot. Can you imagine that?
We met up with Whitney for high tea at The Urban Tea Merchant. Whitney had not had a high tea for years.
Teapots decor. How appropriate.
We had two Traditional Tea Set and a Brunch Tea Set. (more…)
It was a pouring Saturday morning where Nanzaro participated in the Eastside 10K run. He got a free run as his design for the T-shirt for the run was one of the five finalists.
Nanzaro wanted dim sum after his run. We went to Fraser Court Restaurant to reward him.
The place was full when we arrived. Moreover, a part of the dining room was partitioned off for some special function. We waited for a little while for a table. Ben noticed that they actually gave available table to some regular customers before us even though we arrived earlier.
You can click on the dim sum menu to have a larger view.
Nanzaro wanted either Ha Kow or Shiu Mai. Ben ordered the Shiu Mai (steamed pork dumplings) which has some kind of fish in it too. It was quite a big dumpling.
The Sticky Fried Rice with Chinese Sausage is another Nanzaro’s favourite dish. This mini version is $6.95. (more…)
Ben intended to bring me to My Chau for Pho Ga on a Friday evening. We were not aware that it closes at 6:00PM. Although we reached My Chau before 6:00PM, there was a note on the door stating that it closed early for that day.
So, we decided to walk along Kingsway to look for another place to eat. We came upon Hai Phong which we had not been here for a long time and settled with it.
When we entered the restaurant, an aroma of sourness permeated the restaurant. It led us to order a medium Hot and Sour Soup to share. (more…)
