Popeye’s on Hawkins Street, Coquitlam

After the walk at the Lights of Lafarge, Nanzaro recommended to have dinner at Popeye’s in Coquitlam since we were in the neighbourhood.

Popeye’s is located in the Fremont Village. Luckily, it’s opened on Christmas day.

The seating area is partitioned into 2 sections by this spice display unit, quite creative.

Since this is a fast food place, you order at the counter and pick up your order. They will call your name when the order is ready.

The walls are decorated with the Popeye’s history and how the chicken is made.

We ordered the 8 pc family deal for $19.99. It came in a paper box.

The top layer are the big pieces from chicken breast and thighs. Continue reading

Costco Foodcourt in Bellingham

When we were shopping in the Costco in USA, we decided to grab our lunch there. There is self service terminal for ordering food here.

We had the usual hotdog and soda combo which we can get in Costco in Canada. This is the most value for money item on the menu.

The Chicken Bake was very nice. It is a big serving too. Ben and shared one while Nanzaro had one on his own.

We also had a Beef Chili bowl. We were so full that we could not finish it and brought it home.

For dessert, we had the Twisted Churro. It was kind of bready and dry.

Visa card is accepted here. I will definitely get the Chicken Bake again.

Hainan Kitchen on Blundell Road, Richmond

It’s only Arkensen and us went our for dinner that Saturday as Nanzaro went out for dinner with his friends.

We did not want to go too far, so we went to the Garden City Shopping Centre. Arkensen picked the Hainan Kitchen for dinner.

Hainan Kitchen is kind of like an Asian fast food place. Customer order and pays at the counter and when the food is ready, you pick it up from the counter. The operation is like a food court but this is an individual stall with it’s own seating area.

The menu is simple; just a few items. Arkensen ordered their signature dish, Hainan Chicken Rice. Arkensen likes this especially when the chicken is deboned. It came with three types of sauces; chili sauce, ginger onion sauce and a green onion pesto. Continue reading

Danny’s Screamer Era Ends Today

Danny’s Market which is located on Garden City Road and Francis Road is a popular convenience store for the nearby McRobert’s High School students. Teachers sometimes brought the students to the convenience store for a cold treat on hot spring days.

It is a sad day that the store is closing today, a loss for the neighbourhood.

Danny’s Market had won several Best Corner Store award from the annual Best of Richmond survey from Richmond News.

Danny’s Market is well known for its screamer, created by Abbas Danny Khataw in year 2000. Continue reading

McDonalds Bagels

When Ben and I heard McDonalds is serving bagels. we decided to give it a try on a Saturday morning.

We tried two types of bagels. The above is everything with butter, toasted. We enjoyed the crunchiness of this bagel.

The Cinnamon Bagel with cream cheese has a softer texture.

We certainly like the new addition to the menu.

LA Chicken on Thorpe Road, Richmond

Ben went to buy dinner on a Friday evening.

He was craving for fried chicken and he decided to go to LA Chicken which we had not been to for a very long time. Ben and Arkensen love the chicken as they ate it right away. The chicken was crispy on the outside and moist inside.

The above price was 12 pieces of chicken. Credit card is accepted here. Ben said the restaurant was very busy when he was there. He waited for 30 minutes for his order.

The above is the promotion for mother’s day and Victoria day.

Cafe Loyal Asian Fast Food on Bridgeport Road, Richmond

When I was having my hair cut at a salon recently, I overheard conversations about a Hong Kong style restaurant on Bridgeport Road and No. 5 Road has good value for money (I assumed it to be Hong Kong because drink is included).

We decided to go for lunch on a Sunday. The previous tenant of this location was Casa Pinoy which was pretty good too.

As this is a fast food place, there is no table service. The menus are posted on the wall and you place your order by the menu number at the cashier and pay for the food upon placing the order.

When your food is ready, they will call your receipt number for you to pick up your food at the counter. The good thing is you do not have to pay tips as there is no table service. This restaurant accepts cash only.

I like the open kitchen concept where you can view the chef at work and the cleanliness of the kitchen.

I ordered Chicken in Thai Sauce with rice. You can have it with spaghetti too. It is just a grilled chicken chop doused with sweet chili sauce with some steamed green beans at the bottom. The meal was decent. I had hot milk tea with my meal. Continue reading

Sonic America’s Drive-In in Ferndale, WA

We went for another cross border shopping trip just to buy the baby back ribs from Costco in Bellingham for a BBQ gathering. Ben loves the meaty baby back ribs from Costco in US.

Every time we drove on I5 to Bellingham, Nanzaro always ask to stop at Sonic, America’s Drive-In. He loves the nostalgic idea of eating in a drive-in.

There are parking stalls for you to park your car, order and eat in your car. Food will be delivered to your car. I saw one of the server was on roller skates while delivering food to cars.

You can also order from the patio and eat at the patio. We prefer to eat at the tables rather than eating in our car.

Food and drink will be delivered to your table.

They even gave us some complementary candies like restaurants do when you pay for your bill.

KFC Tuesday Deal and 7 Eleven 99cents Big Gulp Summer Deal

When Ben is away, my boys will ask for KFC toonie deal on Tuesday occasionally. More so, in summer.

The Richlea Square KFC looks nicer now as the strip mall had a face lift not long ago. I noticed that KFC here is mostly for take out only unlike those in Asia where you can dine in.

KFC is well known for its Toonie deal on Tuesday. Anyone remembered when was the Toonie deal started? Well, now the Toonie deal had gone up to $2.99 from the original $2 deal. KFC called it the Tuesday Special now as Toonie deal does not fit anymore.

This time round, there is something new in KFC that I love to try. KFC now serves yam fries which I love.

I upgraded my Tuesday Special to yam fries for an extra charge of 59cents. My yam fries were freshly fried. They were crispy on the outside and sweet. I will always trade French fries with yam fries.

We always had the spicy version of the chicken. They are more crispy on the outside.

For the three of us, I always order one extra piece for $1.20 as my boys wanted 3 pieces of chicken. I will give one of my piece to one of them. KFC accepts credit card.

Nanzaro wanted a soft drink to go with his KFC meal. So, we stopped by 7-Eleven to get a Big Gulp for 99cents.

The Big Gulp deal is like a retaliation to McDonalds $1 any size soft drink deal.
