C-Wok Restaurant on Westminster Hwy, Richmond

Emily, Lorna, Marian and I met up for dinner. Emily just got back to Vancouver after being away for more than 3 months.

We had dinner at C-Wok Restaurant and it was not busy just about 7:00PM.

We went for the set meal with four dishes.

The complementary daily soup of dried bok choy was served first.

The above is the restaurant’s signature dish; Hakka Steamed Salted Chicken. The meat were firm and the skin was gelatinous. (more…)

Enjoy Cafe 1+1 on Westminster Highway, Richmond

Nanzaro wanted a big dinner after his 21 km practice run for the marathon. We went to Enjoy Café after having consensus from Arkensen.

Our meal came with a free hot drink. An extra 0.75cents will be charged for cold drink. Since it is dinner time, I had the hot lemon honey drink so as not to affect my sleep later.

Arkensen ordered the Scallop and Bacon Penne in creamy sauce. I tasted a spoonful and it was tasty and creamy.

Nanzaro ordered the XO Seafood Fried Rice which is a new item in 2018. It was a little spicy. (more…)

Tony's Beef Noodle on Cambie, Vancouver

My family went to Tony’s Beef Noodle on Cambie for dinner.

It’s a farewell dinner for Ben as he will be travelling on a short business trip the next morning. Ben picked Tony’s Beef Noodle because it’s near where I’m working now. I found a part time job in Oakridge Mall.

It was just after 6:00pm as we arrived. The restaurant was empty.

Ben ordered the Combination Appetizer of 3. His choice was large intestine, marinated beef slice and marinated beef tripe. He was surprised that Arkensen and Nanzaro dig the innards. (more…)

Huang's Beef Noodle on Victoria Dr., Vancouver

Ben and I were on the way to Oakridge Mall and we need to take a quick lunch before my appointment time.

We stopped by Huang’s Beef Noodle just around noon.

There were 5 customers at 2 tables when we arrived. Since we were really tight on our schedule, we were hoping for a quicker service. Apparently, the restaurant only has one person managing the front and back at that time. Service was quite slow and I was anxious that I will not make it to my appointment.

We ordered two items to share. The above is the Spicy Half Tendon Half Meat with Noodle in Soup. (more…)

Landowne Center Outdoor Spring Carnival

Ben and I went to Lansdowne Mall for lunch as we wanted to check out the carnival which takes place every spring break. I also wanted to check out my new cell phone picture quality as I had to let go of my old cell phone and camera which had broke down.

Nowadays, Ben and I cannot eat a lot. We usually share a meal for lunch and the only choice we can have is to go to a food court. Instead of going to our favourite Bubble Waffle Café, we tried Grill King this time. The server must have caught me taking a photo of the stall and he posted a smile for the camera, :-).

We shared the Korean Noodle Soup which was posted on the banner. We opted for grill chicken which was pretty good.

We do not find anything Korean about this noodle soup, just a regular Chinese noodle soup.

The combo meal came with a large cup of milk tea. It was a great deal for less than CAD7.00.

After lunch, we went outside to check out the carnival. This year, the carnival took place from 16th March to 25 March, 2018. (more…)

Shiang Garden on No. 3 Road, Richmond

Lorna invited me to the “Friends of Tai Chi Chinese New Year Celebration Dinner” again this year. She is a loyal supporter of her Tai Chi master.

The master Tai Chi in action.

This year’s celebration was held in Shiang Garden in Richmond.

The first course was Peking Duck served in pancake. The duck meat was thinly slice and we help ourselves in making a wrap with the pancake, green onion and hoisin sauce. I have to apologize for the poor photo quality as my camera just broke down as the food arrived at the table. I have to take the photos with my crummy cell phone.

Next came the Fish Maw Soup which we enjoyed with some vinegar. (more…)

Sala Thai on Burrard St., Vancouver

I have been attending a career exploration program for the past six weeks. It was a great experience for me to go back to a learning environment with daily commitment of 9:30am to 3:30pm. I will talk more about this program at the end of this post.

On the last day of the program, the group celebrated with a program paid lunch at Sala Thai on Burrard St., which is just a short walk from the YMCA.

Since our lunch was on a Friday afternoon which is one of the busiest time, we arrived at the restaurant at 12:00 noon. The decorations are mostly comprised of Buddhist art, carvings and ceramics.

We waited for a bit at the waiting area before we were let to our reserved long table. We had the opportunity to have our group photo taken here while waiting for our table.

Three of the participants including me decided to share our dishes. The above is the day lunch special of Red Curry Chicken with comes with rice and spring roll. (more…)

Lim Kee Restaurant on Victoria Drive, Vancouver

Nanzaro, Ben and I went for lunch after church service on Sunday. It was a cold day and Nanzaro wanted something with hot broth.

Ben drove along Victoria Dr. and spotted the above Lim Kee Restaurant with Beef Noodle House on it’s awning. We thought it serves Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup.

Ben ordered the House Special Noodle and it turned out to be Vietnamese style beef noodle. No wonder we smelled the aroma of Vietnamese beef noodle while waiting for our order. The house special noodle soup comes with sliced beef, tendon and tripe.

Lim Kee Restaurant only serves bean sprouts with the beef noodle soup. There is no basil like most other Vietnamese restaurants. (more…)

Silver Tower Cafe on Alexandra Road, Richmond

My family has not been to Silver Tower Cafe for dinner for a while, simply because finding a parking in this strip mall is quite slim.

We were lucky this particular weekend as we found one right in front of the restaurant when we arrived just after 5PM.

One of the most likable feature of Hong Kong cafe is the free drink that comes with your meal. I had a hot almond drink while Ben and Nanzaro had a cold chocolate drink and iced lemon tea respectively. Silver Tower does not charge extra for cold drink, a plus point.

Nanzaro ordered the Duck Meat with Preserved Vegetable Fried Rice. The serving is big. (more…)

One Saigon Bistro on Hornby St., Vancouver

I was in downtown Vancouver attending a program. On the lunch break, I went out with two new friends to get a bite. One of them lives nearby and she volunteered to be our lunch guide.

She brought us to One Saigon Bistro on Hornby St. because she was having some tinkering in her throat and a bowl of hot noodle soup should be a good remedy.

We arrived during peak lunch hour. Luckily we were able to secure a table as a couple of customers were just about to leave. The restaurant was small with tight seating. Customers order their food and pay at the counter at the back of the seating area. Food will be deliver to your table.

Our guide had a bowl of wonton rice noodle soup. She commented that she had better pho than this. (more…)
