Kingspark Steak House at Westminster Hwy, Richmond

My family went out for dinner on a Sunday evening. When Ben asked what we would like to eat, everyone’s answer was “anything”. I’m sure Ben is frustrated with such answer as no one wants to take charge. Is this a common problem?

So, Ben had to decide again. He drove to Kingspark Steak House and we found a parking spot right in front of the restaurant. Perhaps, it was still early, just around 5PM. Parking has not been easy in this part of the strip mall.

Nanzaro ordered the XO Sauce Seafood Fried Rice. The serving was not as big as those we get from Enjoy Café 1+1.

I shared an order with Ben. We had the Seafood Chow Mien. This dish was rather disappointing. The sauce looked like glue. We will not order this dish again. The serving was also rather small. (more…)

RMD Oriental Rice Noodle on Akroyd Rd, Richmond

My family visited the RMD Oriental Rice Noodle on Akroyd Rd for dinner on Sunday evening.

This is a new restaurant that replaced the Tri-Ty Café.

The name of the restaurant literally says “Cross Bridge Rice Noodle”; just like the art work on the wall.

The above is how the ingredients of the dish being served; everything displayed in small saucers. The sliced meat in rectangle box is charged extra for $2.99. Both Nanzaro and Ben selected lamb for the extra meat.

Bahn Mi Saigon on Victoria Drive, Vancouver

Ben decided to have Bahn Mi for lunch after church service on a Sunday.

We went to Bahn Mi Saigon on Victoria Drive, Vancouver.

The place was very busy around 1PM. There is a few small tables in the restaurant but most people just take out and go. There is also fresh baguette for sale @ $2.75. Quite a few people bought the baguette while we were there.

There was an assembly line at the preparation counter. One person does the spreading of butter & pork liver pate, another fills the cold cut and other meat and the next person will fill with fresh cucumber slices, pickled carrots and white radish and cilantro and top with chili sauce. The last person will wrap the baguette.

Apna Chaat House on 120th St., Surrey

On a Friday evening, Ben brought me to Apna Chaat House for dinner.

Apna Chaat House serves Indian Street Food in a restaurant setting.

One of the wall serves as a huge menu.

Another wall is decorated with a huge mural about Indian street food.

There are also Indian style Chinese food.

Ben ordered the Pav Bhaji; it’s a thick vegetable curry served with two soft bread rolls. There were a lot of onions in the sauce. (more…)

Szechuan Delicious on No. 3 Road, Richmond Closing Soon

Our family had been trying to come to this restaurant more often once we learned that the current location will be closed in July due to redevelopment. We really hope they will find a new home.

When we come as a family of four, we always get the combo for 4 for CAD52. We like it because for that we get two appetizers and choose four main dishes. You cant beat that for value because Szechuan cuisine is generally more expensive than other Chinese cuisine. We sure are going to miss this place when it closes soon.

The free appetizers are Spicy Pig Ears and Mung Bean Noodle in a tangy and spicy sauce. Ben likes the sauce so much that sometime we bring our own container to take the leftover sauce home as we dare not ask the server to pack the sauce to go.

There are three choices for the fish dish; Water Boiled Fish, Fish with Tofu (that’s our choice this time) and Fish with Preserved Vegetable. Ben commented that the fish is good, just wonder what fish is it. (more…)

Nabegugyo Hot Pot Cuisine on Cambie St., Vancouver

Ben and I finally get to try the ramen hot pot from Nabegugyo Hot Pot Cuisine on Cambie St. on a Friday evening.

We had wanted to check this place out for several times but just did not make it.

There is a communal long U shape table and several 2 and 4 seater tables. We were seated at the communal table. It reminds me of a hot pot place named Xiabu Xiabu that Ben and I like to go to when we were in Beijing. I did not blog about it because no photography is allowed in Xiabu Xiabu.

We were served an appetizer of sea weed salad before our food arrive.

Ben ordered the Sukiyaki Hot Pot with pork but they gave him pork instead. It came with a bowl of steam rice and … (more…)

Birthday Celebration at Tandoori Flame in Delta

The June birthday boy wanted to celebrate his birthday at Tandoori Flame, the new Indian Buffet in Delta. I was not so eager for any all you can eat as I always ended up regretting it.

We called up to check if they accept reservation. Unfortunately, no. So, we arrived about 5 minutes before the dinner opening time at 5:00PM and there was a line already.

We waited for at least 30 minutes before we got to the reception desk just next to the bar.

One of the server briefly showed us the buffet area and brought us to our table at the covered patio. The server returned to check with Ben if we wanted to order some cocktail or juice while the rest of us were lining up to get our food, she was definitely not happy when Ben said no.

The above is from the appetizer section.

The most interesting item is the puri where you crack the top of the fried bread and stuffed it with some savory accompaniments and some sour and spicy sauces. (more…)
