Thai Son on McClelland Road, Richmond
Ben and I went out for a meal on a Sunday with Arkensen as Nanzaro was out with his friends.
We went to Central at Garden City. Arkensen picked Thai Son for comfort food.
Thai Son was quite busy when we arrived.
Arkensen ordered the No. 1 house special (Pho Dac Biet). Both of us felt that it was bland. (more…)
Hoi An Cafe on Victoria Drive, Vancouver
Ben and I went to Victoria Drive for a walk.
We had lunch at Hoi An Cafe as it’s been a long while since we visited this place.
We shared an appetizer for a start. We had the boiled pork and shrimp tapioca dumplings served with fish sauce.
There were quite a bit of Thai chilis in the garnish to give it a kick. (more…)
Bahn Mi Tres Bon on McClelland Road, Richmond
Ben and I went to check out the new Bahn Mi Tres Bon in the central at Garden City. This is where the new Walmart Supercenter is located.
We came just about 7:00PM and the place was almost full. The dining area is not big, with a long table, a few small tables and a casual sofa seating area. Seating is quite tight.
Customers place order and pay at the counter. The menu is not big, slightly pricier than regular Vietnamese restaurant.
Customers will be given a number to be placed at your table so that the server will deliver your orders to your table.
At the back of the restaurant, there is a self service counter of water, condiments and cutlery.
We tried a few items. The above is Vietnamese style fresh soy milk. We had the hot version which was served piping hot. It has good soy milk flavour with just the right sweetness. (more…)

My Chau on Kingsway, Vancouver
After our walk and groceries shopping, Ben suggested to go to My Chau for lunch.
We wanted something light as we were not really hungry after the breakfast at Kingspark Good Food.
I like the cutlery holder at the table. There is even a small compartment for toothpick.
We shared two small noodles. The first was Special Chicken Noodle with chicken, liver, gizzard, quail egg and chicken ball. The size is just right for us. (more…)
Pho Japolo on Bridgeport Road, Richmond
My family had dinner at Pho Japolo on Bridgeport Road before Ben left for another business trip.
We came back to Pho Japolo wanted to try the specialty dishes. Unfortunately, those dishes had been discontinued. They only serve regular Vietnamese noodle soup, rice plate and vermicelli bowl.
Nanzaro’s favourite condiments, various chili sauces.
Arkensen ordered the Noodle Soup with well-done flank, fatty brisket, soft tendon and beef tripe. The large bowl is $9.95. The serving is not as large as other Vietnamese places. (more…)
Cafe Mai Mai & Pho on Granville St., Vancouver
Ben and I went out for lunch after our morning walk on a Saturday.
Ben drove to Granville St., with the intention to have lunch at one of the restaurants along the that street. We ended checking out Pho Mai Mai as it was rainy day and a bowl of noodle soup will be heart warming.
The restaurant was pretty quiet when we arrived. Just simple seating arrangement, nothing fancy.
We shared two items. A pho which came with raw beef. The soup was flavourful and the server told Ben that their dishes were MSG free. (more…)
Green Bamboo Vietnamese Cuisine at Crystal Mall, Burnaby
During Ben’s Christmas break, we went for long walk at Central Park. After the walk, we went to Metrotown area for lunch.
Ben brought me to Green Bamboo Vietnamese Restaurant. It is one of his occasional lunch spot.
I was enticed to have the above Stewed Duck Leg Egg Noodle which was posted on the wall outside the restaurant. But, unfortunately, this item had been cancelled from the menu.
So, I ordered the Seafood Tom Yum noodle Soup. It was sour and mildly spicy. (more…)
Pho Hong on Kingsway, Burnaby
It’s been a long time since our family visited Pho Hong. I meant all in the family dine here together.
Ben does come here once in a while for his lunch on work week.
The aging wall paper had gone. It looks brighter now with the white paint.
The usual condiments for pho. The bean sprouts are served raw.
Ben and Arkensen had the No. 1 special. Ben had the small bowl ($7.50) while Arkensen had the large bowl. The difference in price is just 50cents. (more…)
