On a Saturday morning, my sister in law (my brother’s wife) wanted to bring me to FRIM for morning walk.

We went out very early, just after 6am. It was still very dark. So, we went to the nearby Kim Tek Bak Kut Teh to have breakfast. This is my family’s favourite bak kut teh restaurant. She ordered an order of “sei guat”, literally translated to small bone. The meat was not too fatty.  I wonder what is the English term for this part of the meat.

We also shared an order of bean curd sheet and tofu puff.

Lastly, some Chinese donut for dunking into the soup.

After breakfast, we drove to FRIM which is just a short drive away. FRIM stands for Forest Research Institute Malaysia. Entry to FRIM is RM5.30 (about CAD1.50) per car. If by foot, it’s RM1 per person. (more…)

I visited an ex-colleague at her family home in Ampang. She and her Canadian husband also came back to Kuala Lumpur to celebrate Chinese New Year.

My friend went to buy some yong tau foo from the famous Ampang stalls. We had a variety of yong tau foo in soup.

She also bought some deep fried dumpling.

The steamed “sui gao” is specifically for her husband who is on a diet. (more…)

After tea time at Le Bread Days, my friend brought me to the real deal.

She brought me to the SS2 Durian stall to get the real fruit.

It is not durian season yet, so there is not many places that sell it now. I was so lucky to have such a great friend to bring me to one.

After lunch, my friend brought me along to pick her daughter up from school and to send her to Chinese language tuition.

We had two hours to fill before my friend had to pick her up again. She brought me to a bakery and cafe, Le Bread Days.

My friend said this bakery serves one of the best durian croissant.

I met up with two of my ex-classmates at The Waterfront @ Desa Parkcity.

It is a neat neighbourhood with a lake, a park and restaurants and grocery stores.

My friends brought me to Restoran Onde-Onde which serves Malaysian food.

It was not busy yet as we were there early.

We ordered three dishes to share. The above is the Nasi Lemak Special with ayam masak merah and sambal squid. (more…)

On the night that I returned from Malacca, I was still at my sister’s place. My youngest brother will drive me back to my father’s place later that night.

Prior to going back to my father’s place, he brought me to the Seri Kembangan night market. He told me that the Seri Kembangan night market is bigger than the one in Puchong.

But on the way there, the sky did not look good. It was very dark and the closer we were to the night market, we could see lightning. Nevertheless, we still took our chance.

Here are some of the snacks I had in Malacca.

The durian puff is RM2.50 (about CAD0.80). The filling is chilled and yet runny. So, becareful when biting into it.

After visiting Cheng Ho Cultural Museum, we went to a nearby chicken rice restaurant to have lunch.

We went to Hoe Kee Chicken Rice since the famous Kedai Kopi Chung Wah was not opened.

We ordered chicken rice for two as recommended by the server.

Our next destination is Cheng Ho Cultural Museum.

Cheng Ho Cultural Museum is the largest museum in Malacca.
