Beard Papa’s on No. 3 Road

I had to send my car for maintenance on a Tuesday afternoon and had three hours to kill. Coincidentally, Polly called me up a day before to ask me if I wanted to go out for coffee. So, I made arrangement for Polly to pick me up from the automall after I dropped off my car. We went to Beard Papa’s on No. 3 Road for convenience as I can take the free shuttle back to automall from Richmond Center later.

We shared a couple of little cakes. The above is Mont Blanc which is a sponge cake iced with chestnuts cream. It is called Mont Blanc as it resembles a snow-capped mountain.

The next cake we tried was the Mango Mousse Cake.

There is even some mango puree in the center of the cake. (more…)

Leisure Tea & Coffee on Alexandra Road, Richmond

It’s been a while since Polly and I met up for cake meet due to her busy schedule. We found time to meet up and went to Leisure Tea & Coffee for a light lunch, more like a snack lunch.

img_9927

Leisure Tea & Coffee only opens at 12:00PM.

img_9905

Polly told me that this is a popular place for Taiwanese. Truely enough, a group of middle aged people came in for coffee at the later part of our meal and they spoke “Hokkien”/”Fujian”.

img_9910

We had the Oriental Style Combo for 2 with 1 black coffee and 1 pot of tea for $26.25. For the tea, Polly selected the Passion Fruit and Pineapple Tea. It was very sweet and fragrant. We asked for a pot of hot water so that we can dilute the tea before drinking. (more…)

Trees Organic in Gas Town

Polly suggested to meet at Trees Organic in Gas Town as she enjoys Trees Organic’s cheesecake, the best cheesecake in Vancouver. Our first visit to Trees Organic is at the Granville location.

016

We parked in the River Rock Casino and we took the Canada Line to the Waterfront station. Parking at the River Rock Casino is only $2.50 for the whole day.

011

We found a table by the window, next to the potted plant. It is a great seat to watch people.

012014

There were lots of tour buses parked on the street just outside of Trees Organic to load and unload tourists.

009

We ordered our food and paid at the counter and the server brought our food to our table. (more…)

The Sweet Spot revisited

Polly and I met for one more time before I left for Beijing this summer. We revisited The Sweet Spot in Steveston since I had a flight to catch after our cake meet.

The-Sweet-Spot-004

Polly suggested to revisit The Sweet Spot in Steveston. We had four items to share.

The-Sweet-Spot-003

The above was a Pear Tart. At the first glance, Polly thought it was a savoury tart.

The-Sweet-Spot-006

Does’nt the pear looks like bacon? Most likely the pear is poached in red wine. (more…)

Pane e Fromaggio on 10th Ave W, Vancouver

Polly and I had cake meet at Pane e Fromaggio for another lady’s day out.

P1080324

I had a hard time trying to recover the photos taken since 31st May as my notebook’s hard disk is dying. I had been painstakingly and patiently copying out my pictures from my dying notebook. I’m currently using a notebook on loan, so there will be no photoshopping for the pictures, i.e. I cannot place the chowtimes logo on my photos.

P1080323

Pane e Fromaggio is a nice little cafe, not many seats though.

Diplomat Bakery on London Road, Richmond

It’s been a long while I have not been back to Diplomat Bakery. Polly and I met up for cake meet again after a long break at Diplomat Bakery which is one of our favourite place.

Diplomat-Bakery-London-Road-Richmond-01

It was an exceptionally cold, wet and windy spring day. So, both of us had a bowl of hot soup. The small chicken gumbo was $2.99. It was filled with vegetables like tomatoes, onions and okra and had cubes of chicken with rice. It was slightly spicy and great for the cold weather.

Diplomat-Bakery-London-Road-Richmond-02

Each of us also had a piece of Napolean as it is not sharable. It was very messy eating it as it crumbles and the cream and icing sugar gets all over your lips. But it’s a very luscious dessert. It is $2,75.

Diplomat-Bakery-London-Road-Richmond-03

We also shared a Butter Croissant which is topped with sliced almonds and icing sugar. I think it was $2.99. The server offered to warm it up in the microwave for us. (more…)
