I had to send my car for maintenance on a Tuesday afternoon and had three hours to kill. Coincidentally, Polly called me up a day before to ask me if I wanted to go out for coffee. So, I made arrangement for Polly to pick me up from the automall after I dropped off my car. We went to Beard Papa’s on No. 3 Road for convenience as I can take the free shuttle back to automall from Richmond Center later.
We shared a couple of little cakes. The above is Mont Blanc which is a sponge cake iced with chestnuts cream. It is called Mont Blanc as it resembles a snow-capped mountain.
The next cake we tried was the Mango Mousse Cake.
There is even some mango puree in the center of the cake. Continue reading
It’s been a while since Polly and I met up for cake meet due to her busy schedule. We found time to meet up and went to Leisure Tea & Coffee for a light lunch, more like a snack lunch.
Leisure Tea & Coffee only opens at 12:00PM.
Polly told me that this is a popular place for Taiwanese. Truely enough, a group of middle aged people came in for coffee at the later part of our meal and they spoke “Hokkien”/”Fujian”.
We had the Oriental Style Combo for 2 with 1 black coffee and 1 pot of tea for $26.25. For the tea, Polly selected the Passion Fruit and Pineapple Tea. It was very sweet and fragrant. We asked for a pot of hot water so that we can dilute the tea before drinking. Continue reading
August is my best friend’s birthday. We went to Sugarholic Cafe to celebrate her birthday.
Sugarholic Cafe is an Asian style cafe which serves desserts and also Asian style dishes.
We noticed the staff here are quite young looking.
Since Polly loves little cakes, we went for the 3 Tier Dessert Set.
The above are the list of tea that we can choose from. The 3 Tier Dessert Set comes with 2 choice of herbal tea.
The above was recommendation by the server; Fresh Tropical Fruit Tea. The fruit include apple, kiwi, pineapple and orange. We enjoyed this tea.
Our second choice is Red Dates with Longan Tea. I like this tea as it good for blood circulation.
The tea comes with a free refill.
Here is our 3 Tier Dessert Set. When we told the server it’s for the celebration of Polly’s birthday, we were given an extra piece of dessert. The original set is made of 18 pieces of dessert. Continue reading
Polly suggested to meet at Trees Organic in Gas Town as she enjoys Trees Organic’s cheesecake, the best cheesecake in Vancouver. Our first visit to Trees Organic is at the Granville location.
We parked in the River Rock Casino and we took the Canada Line to the Waterfront station. Parking at the River Rock Casino is only $2.50 for the whole day.
We found a table by the window, next to the potted plant. It is a great seat to watch people.
There were lots of tour buses parked on the street just outside of Trees Organic to load and unload tourists.
We ordered our food and paid at the counter and the server brought our food to our table. Continue reading
Polly and I met for one more time before I left for Beijing this summer. We revisited The Sweet Spot in Steveston since I had a flight to catch after our cake meet.
Polly suggested to revisit The Sweet Spot in Steveston. We had four items to share.
The above was a Pear Tart. At the first glance, Polly thought it was a savoury tart.
Does’nt the pear looks like bacon? Most likely the pear is poached in red wine. Continue reading
Polly and I had cake meet at Pane e Fromaggio for another lady’s day out.
I had a hard time trying to recover the photos taken since 31st May as my notebook’s hard disk is dying. I had been painstakingly and patiently copying out my pictures from my dying notebook. I’m currently using a notebook on loan, so there will be no photoshopping for the pictures, i.e. I cannot place the chowtimes logo on my photos.
Pane e Fromaggio is a nice little cafe, not many seats though.
There is a good selection of sandwiches, cakes and desserts.
Here is a glance of what we had. Continue reading
Steveston Bakery is a old timer in Steveston Village. It has been around since 1989.
The sandwich board in front says that coffee is free from 5 to 6pm.
A mural covers one of the wall in the bakery.
There are baked goods from cake, muffin, pastries, cookies, bread and soup. Coffee is self service. We ordered large coffees since it’s just 20 cents extra from the regular size. But the server told us that she will charge us the regular size price since refill is free when we dine in.
We ordered four items to share. The bill came to $13+ including the coffees. Price is very reasonable here. Steveston Bakery accepts credit card. Continue reading
Polly and I celebrated Mother’s Day in advance.
We went for high tea at Adorabelle Tea Room in Steveston. Please note that Adorabelle Tea Room is located at the old Steveston Court House. Pay parking is available at the parking lot adjacent to the tea room.
Reservation is required. The teacups that decorated a wall are lovely.
Each will get his/her individual teapot which is covered with a warmer at the back of the above photo.
The server will add the tea leaves into the teapot strainer at the table. Continue reading
Polly and I met at LÓpera Patisserie for cake meet.
LÓpera Patisserie is located across Mui Garden. One hour free parking is available in the hotel parking lot. Park at spot with no specific reservation sign.
It is a small French patisserie which seats no more than 20.
Polly had a Cappuccino which is strong in coffee flavour.
I had a Matcha Latte. It left behind a layer of oily green settlement at the end; kind of weird.
The croissants here are amazing. They are so big and airy. Continue reading
It’s been a long while I have not been back to Diplomat Bakery. Polly and I met up for cake meet again after a long break at Diplomat Bakery which is one of our favourite place.
It was an exceptionally cold, wet and windy spring day. So, both of us had a bowl of hot soup. The small chicken gumbo was $2.99. It was filled with vegetables like tomatoes, onions and okra and had cubes of chicken with rice. It was slightly spicy and great for the cold weather.
Each of us also had a piece of Napolean as it is not sharable. It was very messy eating it as it crumbles and the cream and icing sugar gets all over your lips. But it’s a very luscious dessert. It is $2,75.
We also shared a Butter Croissant which is topped with sliced almonds and icing sugar. I think it was $2.99. The server offered to warm it up in the microwave for us. Continue reading
